I usually rep Dr. Dogs version of Heart, It Races by Architecture In Helsinki.
But I posted this gem the other day and want to go back to it. It's the Melvins cover of Kiss's Going Blind (Hotter Than Hell, 1974). I love it and according to Dale Crover (Melvins drummer), Gene Simmons told him that Kiss had never performed it live and were inspired to do so by the Melvins cover.
The Cramps did a bunch of great covers but my favorite is the one they did of Warren Smith's Uranium Rock.
Originally recorded in 1958, it discusses everything a rock-a-billy tune requires: money, Cadillacs, Geiger counters, and a f&ck off attitude. It was basically made for the Cramps but missing the sexual innuendo and explicit drug abuse.
One more...That's great. Thanks. Had not heard Uranium Rock before. Some of their other covers I like are Strychnine - The Sonics, Surfin Bird - The Trashmen, Heartbreak Hotel - Elvis
I really enjoy when artists do covers. Are they always better? Maybe not, probably not. I do enjoy the twist on the originals and have a play list full of them.
Arguably the best might be:
