Fran vs Media

Can you imagine the Philadelphia media putting up with any of Fran or Marge's crap. I doubt the Philly media pays too much attention to Penn basketball overall but I can't see them putting up with that kind of nonsense.

that finish is fine with me as long as occasionally they're playing on the second weekend of the ncaa tournament.
That’s a sad take. Winning a conference and/or tournament means you’re pretty damned good. If you don’t want to be good, just lucky, that’s you I guess.

In fairness this isn't limited just to Iowa, but it's still true. A massive portion of "sports journalism" is just buddy-buddy stuff with coaching staffs. Leaking or making things sound bad means being cut off completely with no recourse.

It's not really a "journalism" field in that regard. There's no system in place to enforce integrity or unbiases views around it, since the people controlling it are the ones on the teams. No system exists to protect the people who would speak about the bad things (as opposed to other journalistic fields out there).
Exactly. How many UCONN beat reporters you suppose are publicly critical of Hurley’s antics?

Jfc 8-10 wins a year. He's done a hell of a job.
Exactly. I mean, who else could beat the likes of Albany, UMASS, Rutgers, Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota, old Indiana, and Nebraska year on and year out? Dude can develop players, but his results are indicative of a cupcake schedule.

KF has averaged 8 wins for the past 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 years. He's had 7 seasons out of 27 with 10 more more wins. Finished ranked 12 out of 27. Finished top-10 in 5 out of 27.
Rounding up?

They play close games with everyone. JFC he knows how to win. They have plenty of new years day wins against sec teams, put lots of people in the nfl, etc. Is there a point where you just say "he really did do a good job there." I mean just grow the **** up

Who have they beat over the last 4 seasons? LMAO at the NYD bowl game reference. Both things can be true. Iowa's defense has kept them in a ton of games but they have gotten a ton of mileage out of beating bad teams. Iowa's SOR over the last 4 years has to be really terrible.

You sure defend Iowa a lot more than ISU, not sure I believe your username.

That’s just the facts, but it does kind of prove things can get a little silly with these rankings.

Ferentz has done a great job. However, they did go like 5 years without beating a ranked team which was a talking point until they finally clipped Vandy in the bowl.

Ferentz’s true superpower is that he doesn’t lose to bad teams.

Over the last 4 years, Iowa is 35-18. They went 1-10 versus top 25 teams over that timeframe.

Iowa State is 30-21, and went 5-8 vs top 25 teams.

However, Iowa State also lost a lot of games to sub .500 teams.

Ferentz wins games he should win and loses games he should lose. To a near-perfect consistency. They also happen to play many more games they should win than ones they should lose. At the end of the day, good coaches consistently win games they should win. That's him. It's not like he's Saban, but he's not post-L'Ville Charlie Strong, either.
