For those of you who don't remember this date exactly, let ESPN help you out:

ESPN - Waybacks for a Friday game day - Big 12

Sept. 12, 1998 -- Iowa State 27, Iowa 9 (Iowa City, Iowa): Darren Davis rushed for 244 yards and Joe Parmentier scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Cyclones' upset victory, snapping a 15-game losing streak to their cross-state rivals. Heading into the game, the Cyclones had been 0-30-1 in road games since 1991.

I never did actually see this game since we didn't have ESPN 2 at home in 1998 but I remember my brother calling at halftime and screaming, "WE ARE KICKING THEIR ***!!!" That, for me, was the day I became a diehard Cyclone fan.

I was watching a high school football game back home when they started announcing the score updates during the second half of the game. Funny how it is kinda one of those things where you remember what you were doing at the time.

I suppose 15 years of getting beat up and down the field will do that for ya, also ISU was 0-14 in my lifetime against Iowa before that game

My brother and I were cleaning up a massive spilled pile of corn, and we parked a pick up next to the pile and cranked it up. My brother was a Hawk at the time (he converted upon attending ISU), and it made the afternoon go by much faster

I was at that game. What a wonderful feeling sitting amongst the shocked Hawkeye faithful. They were cursing Hayden. And completely demoralized. A GREAT GREAT Day.

I was out with my wife and 1 year old son that morning at the "Radio Flyer Wagon Pull" at Navy Pier in Chicago. I heard the score on the radio on the drive home (near halftime). We did not have cable & when we got home, I told my wife (who never liked sports & still to this day does not undertand), "I know you don't understand, but i gotta go" & went to a bar around the corner.

I was a freshman in the band. What a great day that was. I said this the other day in another post, so I won't tell the whole story here, but my entire attitude about Cyclone Football changed on that day. Never looking back to the 80s and early 90s. Yeah baby!

I was living in Omaha and got home after the game had started. After so many disasters in the past I kept waiting for the team to fold like they had so many times before. I think this was a big step in getting us on our winning ways for a few years. Maybe tomorrow will be the start of a new trend. ( insert kool-aid joke here )

I was there sitting in the Iowa FB parents section. I had a buddy who was injured but on the Iowa roster and got me tickets. Needless to say, I had to sit on my hands the WHOLE game. It would take an amazing game to top that day...and the 2002 game did just that. Unbelievable.

Drove up from KC with a few people and watched the game at the Sports Column. I believe I may have gotten drunk that day. Sweet win

Best game I have ever attended. Sat next to the ISU marching band in the end zone. Nothing like rushing the field after an ISU vicotry in Kinnick. The look on the faces of the Iowa players was priceless.

Somewhere on the internets there used to be a scan of the column that Mike Hlas (?) wrote before this game going on and on about how ISU had no chance in hell to win it. I used to have a link but it's disappeared. Anyone happen to know where that is? It's an all-time classic.

Iwas aat the game, sort of. I went down to Iowa City to a tailgate but on by the Johnson county alumni Association. We were all there having a great time drinking and talking to all the Iowa co-eds that came by to drink from the keg that we missed the first few minutes of the game. When we walked into Kinnick there was a muffled roar, and we figured the Hawk made a big play. We were stunned to see ISU kicking off by the time we got to our seats. I still wasn't sure the ISU was goig to win until late in the 4th quarter. Man it was a quiet walk from Kinnick that day.

I was there and a great win. We kept wondering if Iowa would come back as they had before at different times over the previous 15 years. They never did. One of McCarney's finest moments.

I don't know what I was doing at the time of the game, but I found out that we won on Monday. It doesn't make much sense to me because I am a die hard fan, but I didn't know who won til Monday.(Probably had an out of town soccer tournament) The best part is that I found out in my first hour high school class with Casey Shelton (future O lineman) and Joe Woodley (future fullback/linebacker). Joe had on the T-Shirt already. I think he had already committed and his dad was a coach so he had early access to everything. McCarneys biggest win.
