First time hillside

I've got friends (ISU alums even) that I have to work on just to get them to buy damn hillside tix. If there's an open seat up near me by the end of the 1st qtr, i'll text em with the location to come up.

I guess if I bought hillside i'd just stay there, but since I have a seat I'll invite people up to fill some empties. What the hell? If the jack is packed each week, there wouldn't be room to do that, and I'd be fine with it.

Be prepared for, "casual fans," to heckle you and make fun of you for standing. I tried hillside and was relentlessly **** talked to by a man in his 40's until my party sat down(after the wind went from our sails in the Utah game last year). I am sure it isn't everyone's experience, but it happened to us.

The losers that buy hillside tickets just to move to a reserved seat are part of the problem.

I know it's common practice.

Yeah I'm hoping I can get a spot with a good view of the board. I had a pretty bad experience when sitting next to hillside with some Nebraska fans picking fights with us. Well I guess I did bring an Iowa fan with me, and he was picking fights with them. But that game made me hate Nebraska.. and I really don't recall any ISU fans on that hill now that I think about it.

Wow, I didn't think there were so many people against self-upgrading your seats in a stadium when it isn't full.

Haha! +1
Hillside tix = Upper Deck Student Section
Don't brink those beers into the game with you though, unless you buy them from the university...

All tickets should be $10 each and there should be a lottery as to where your seat will be for each game - that way we all have a fair shot at the good seats and the rich get the same as the poor.

Nice . . calling ISU fans losers. I love it. Maybe you have a deeper checkbook than these losers? Just asking?

And you like empty seats in the Jack . . . because all those losers might take advantage and get a cheap seat up in the corners?

Really? Nice.

Try standing along the edges . . . I've never had a problem.

Back to the topic at hand....

I bought 2x hillside tix after we had a great time at the Nebraska game last year. Not ISU fans per say but we live in Ankeny and there are some great games on the schedule this year.

Aside from moving to the stands, any other tips? Can you bring camping chairs? Any corner better than the rest as far as types of people on the hill? My wife hates kids and will hate sitting in the grass...am I going to be sleeping on the couch after gameday?

Every time I've been to Jack Trice I've been in the stands. By last game I was actually against the wall next to a Hillside. I got hillsides for the Iowa game and was just wondering what I should expect. Will I be able to see about the same as sitting in that corner? Does standing on a hill all game suck?

Another question. I bought a few tickets under the impression its GA, which I'm still sure it is. Then my friend bought one today to come with and we noticed it actually says you're supposed to be in a specific hillside? It even has a row and seat buuuut I know that isn't right either unless they just bowled it in without me knowing :twitcy:
They don't check hillside tickets. The new scoreboard apparently took up a few feet of hillside room on both sides, and blocks some views of the field. But you can't beat the price of hillside seats.

No.
The South corners will be the best, because of the view of the new videoboard.
If the videoboard is not a priority to you, then the North hillsides will probably be less full. (which might also mean, more kids running around)

The problem is that there are spaces available for people to move up to. I'm not sure what the number is for how many people sit hillsides each year, but even @ $16.50 dollars it generates some money. That's basing it off of season ticket price, so $16.50 is the minimum that each person is worth. Plus concessions and merchandise. That isn't much, but it's better than nothing.
I know that there are people who wouldn't buy tickets at all if they couldn't buy hillsides. If those people want to take their cheap ticket to the empty seats in the upper deck, what's the harm? I just think that our attendance would be pathetic if every hillsider had to fork out the extra money to sit in a seat that would otherwise be empty. We range between 43 and 50 thousand right now, if we force higher prices on people who aren't willing or able to pay, then we lose money.
What we need is more people who can and will pay for higher priced tickets. In the meantime, let the hillsiders continue to pay their dues, and look to move up if the opprotunity is there. I know that most people aren't looking to steal seats, but what's the point of having mildly happy people on the hillsides with empty seats all around? I would rather have people who get the best possible enjoyment out of a game they payed money to see. Hillsides are a roll of the dice, you could end up barely seeing the field (UNI, Iowa, Texas), or being able to sit in a good seat (Kansas, Baylor, TTU, etc). Either way, hillsides generate money that normally wouldn't be there.

Personally, I would stand on the west hillsides if possible. There are more "structures" to try to find a good view. Last year, I found the best spot during the Nebraska game was just behind the visiting section. There is a handicap ramp that runs along the hillside splitting it into top and bottom. I would stand as close to the front of the "upper" part of the hillside. There is a 2-3 foot concrete wall that runs along the ramp that is great to stand on. I'm only 5'7" so that comes in handy for me. Last year I believe it was red bark that was laid down, so bring a blanket, but at least it wasn't grass. Also, I would say there are less kids on that side of the stadium. Being near the visiting section, I would think there are more people who don't want their kids just roaming around a strange venue. Plus, you will have a great view of the scoreboard. Get there early if you want a really good view.

Personally, I don't have a problem with people moving. I think that the stadium looks better with people in the stands vs on the hillside. Let them experience the game from the stands and as ISU gets better, maybe they decide to up their giving to get better seats. I would love to see them bowl in that SEZ and force hillsiders to the north, driving up the demand for actual seats.

If you're going to get on people's case for moving into empty seats from hillsides I think you should also be an advocate of two things that would help that situation big time:
1) Realistically student tickets need to be cheaper than hillside seats. Maybe they fixed that this year.
2) In a crazy world you'd have to actually have a butt in your seat for x amount of games or you'd get sent to the back of the line for seating preference.

I don't think stealing is really the right word for it. I may technically be that, but if someone paid for that seat but isn't using it, why should it go to waste? You couldn't be bothered to give that ticket away to someone, but you're upset that someone would dare sit there in your absence? That's not exactly the essence of true fandom either.

I have no problem with hill sides moving to an empty seat. I had some friends wait to buy season tickets till late in the summer and by that time they could not get any seats in the south endzone. I told them to buy hillsides and we will see what happens, but at least they will be in the same vicinity as us.

Is there still a $20 charge added to the hillside ticket price? I agree that students should have the cheapest tickets in an effort to encourage more student attendance, but last year the actual difference was ~$5 once the surcharge was added to the hillside seats.
