Fire at Ross Hall

I like your thoughtful idea. I'm sure it's more stereotypical guy thinking than that, like "well, they go together, so somewhere to sit" or whatever it is we think when we put these things together.

Come to think of it, I don't think Ross has an area set aside for pumping and all. I think someone has to go to Sloss House for the closest one. It's been a few years since I looked it up, though, so a bunch of words from me to say "huh, I don't know."

Well, this won't be helpful:

It looks like there are only, like, 20 of them on campus, anyway. Yikes.

Yeah, it's bad.
And if you need to bring kiddo to work at ISU, better have some kind of windsheild and a bunch of blankets for the stroller with the wide-open spaces for wind.
And you'd better have the right departmental people around you. Plenty of profs/staff are not supportive of the concept of kids on campus.

That's a huge bummer. My mom has taken one or the other of ours to her classes several times to work with the students - but they're all ed, so I guess that's different. It's not like ISU has an abundance of childcare options available (particularly not cheap).

Had to google it (which I am kind of ashamed of, maybe I am just getting old) to remember which building it was.

My freshman year I got drunk in the Tiers once in the library and tried to walk back to maple in the rain with a couple of coeds and ended up stopping in Ross because we were soaked and It was a real bad storm. Some old SUPER creepy looking (presumably) English prof stood there with us watching the storm from the doorway. The girls were freaking out because they thought he was going to bust us or something because we were underage and obviously hammered. Fun times. That guy looked like Dumbledore's evil twin.

I was fortunate. Our department chair and our admin person were anxious to watch after Z while I taught, so that was easy.
Our next chair, a guy, was not fond of the idea of children up there. Never said anything to me, but I heard through the grapevine. I knew that was a big deal, because the grapevine never reaches me anywhere. But, we carried on. Since no one said "No," I plugged on along. I assume gender played a role, and the fact that I was already doing it when needed.

To FP&M (Facilities Planning and Management) credit, any new building or remodel is making sure "wellness" rooms and ADA access are being accommodated. ADA access is a bigger concern.

Absolutely ADA access is a bigger concern. That has to be everywhere, "wellness" rooms just have to be practically accessible (I believe). I also only know (or, at least, knew back when it was relevant) how the requirements went for employers - I don't know if it's the same for students. I never looked it up. So I'd think professors could largely just use their offices, if needed.

English 302 that was the class! I think that summer there were maybe 15 of us and pretty sure I was the only non-athlete.

I took the Honors section of that course - I could have sworn it was in a room at Ross with windows, though. I could always hear the Campanile, as it was over lunch.

Thought I had started reading a Penthouse letter at first.

When I heard this my first thought was all of those books that English and history professors have in their offices. 2nd thought was Ross Hall wouldn’t be missed

(I was a history major that switched to English. Half of my campus life was spent in that dungeon)

Had an english class there in my last semester which was in the summer. Talk about depressing going from the beautiful summer Iowa State campus scenery to the basement of Ross Hall.

Pretty much the same here. Had an English class (maybe 302) and some other Mgmt class in Carver to finish my ISU career during the first summer session. Only good thing is they were cake classes and I was done in the morning every day. This was 20 years ago, so campus was really dead in the summer. My responsible friend and roommate was gone most of the summer working on an internship. My completely irresponsible friends stayed in Ames that summer. There's a strange mix of awesome and sad getting lit mid-week in an empty campustown as your college days end.

I really doubt I can remember the specific classes. For the longest time I had memories of going to a small old building where one of my Profs had an office jammed right next to Carver. Then going by the area in recent years I had convinced myself I was remembering wrong and there's no way a building was tucked in there, but sure enough:
