Field is rough

I really do not have a clue, but wonder if the synthetic grass that was weaved with the grass has anything to do with this. The synthetic grass was supposed to make the real grass have deeper roots as I understand. This is what the Packers did on their field.

Interesting read (a bit dated). Search "FieldTurf Problems" for some interesting reads.

You seem pretty knowledgeable on the topic. What's the dollar figure difference between an NFL field budget and Iowa State's?
I had that number a couple years ago. I will have to look for it.

Its pretty large difference.

Look at a place like Green Bay. They not only have a heating system with state of the art drainage and irrigation systems, but also a cover that goes over the field that includes a heating system and grow lights.

You also have places like Arizona, and Vegas that have the natural field on tracks to move it in and out of the stadiums.

ISU is not even on the same planet when talking budgets.

Maybe instead of complaining about bad field conditions, we actually fill the stadium. Yesterday was pretty embarrassing and don’t talk about weather. It was just fine a half hour before kickoff, tailgate at a restaurant/bar before the game.

I assume Campbell would have the pull to make the change to field turf if he felt it was in the best interest of the program. Since that hasn’t happened it is what it is.

What does filling the stadium have to do with players from both teams slipping often while other games on grass don't have the same thing?

I can't imagine that ISU's players are OK with having to be careful cutting.

Who told you that other games on grass don’t have the same thing? Under similar conditions,I’ve seen it.

It’s November in Iowa.

Nobody told me.

I don't recall seeing the same slippage on grass in other games.

And it's been an issue at moments throughout the season including the opening game.

The 'dew' and 'rain' excuse is fine for slips on the top of the grass, which isn't happening. The slips are tearing up entire chunks of turf, almost to the base/root level. This isn't normal and does not happen at all grass fields. It has been noticeable in every home game this season, including the afternoon games.
It would be interesting to hear from a soils engineer. Is something wrong with the shear strength (or other property) of the soil/base that the turf is growing in?
