This thread is about lawn care. If you want to discuss clover lawns, make a thread about it.
I've got quite a bit of clover in my grass lawn. It actually helps keep the dandelions and crabgrass suppressed. The white flowers don't bother me, but I spot spray the hell out of any creeping charlie or other weeds.

What are you spot spraying the creeping charlie with?

I’ve got a patch of clover violets. I haven’t done much about it yet. Bought our house in December, did the “idiot proof” program from Grass Pad for fertilizer. I bought some spray that it sounds like early spring or fall is the best time to spray(bought it far past early spring), so I’m hoping the spray works in the fall and want to over seed the lawn a month+ later. Plus obviously seed the few random bare spots.

I live in Overland Park Kansas for reference.

Good plan?

Is it Gordon's T-zone or Speed zone?

Both great products, but yes cooler weather is much safer as they can be hard on the grass too. Pay attention to the label rate and don't exceed it.

Can we do the no weeds thing without adding fertilizer? And what would that look like?
Not long term. You can fertilize with products that aren't synthetic chemical fertilizer. Biosolids, manures, alfalfa pellets are a few options. Once you get a lawn weed free you can maintain it, if it's less than 1000 sq ft with mechanical methods (pulling weeds).

A lawn is basically a crop and you can grow it organically, just like any vegetable farm can do that. As a crop, other plants want to compete with it. Your job as a grass farmer is to do everything to help grass win the battle for space, soil, nutrients, water and sunlight.

Once grass is really winning the battle, you have less work and just need to help maintain dominance for those resources. Example :if you let nitrogen get to low conditions will favor plants that can source their own nitrogen, like clover. This is why clover can quickly come to dominate an under fertilized yard. Healthy soil with good nutrients and organic matter seems to allow for less fertilizer.

You don't really need to wait 1 month after spraying most weed killer to seed. I'm in the same area and usually seed first two weeks of September but all of September is usually good.

Water a fair amount in late August to get everything growing again and spray on a cooler day or in the evening where it's less than 85 degrees. Wait a week or two and do your seeding project. Try to get good seed to soil contact and use peat moss to lightly cover your seed. If you can buy a timer for your faucet or set sprinklers, I like to water seed 3x per day for about 5 minutes or a bit more if it's windy and hot.

Most people overlook cultural practices when managing weeds. Grass is adapted to recover quickly after being grazed. Mowing frequently is a hack to take advantage of this property in grass. Must plants don't do to well when you cut the tops off. Grass is made for that. Mowing frequently favors the grass. Your crazy neighbor that mows twice a week has a nicer lawn just because of that practice.

Applied my 2nd round of fertilizer Memorial Day weekend. With rain forecasted here in Central Iowa is it too early for a third application or should I wait until August?

With it being so hot, if you do fertilize, go like half the bag rate or use a biosolids or organic option. Grass isn't very active right now, so pushing growth can cause problems. Also, the synthetic fertilizer is just a nitrogen salts that soak up water and can dry out soil. If you do fertilize, make sure you get plenty of water on it.

Keep spraying those lawns baby!

‘Disturbing’: weedkiller ingredient tied to cancer found in 80% of US urine samples

Certainly spraying it on lawns is causing some exposure, but I'm guessing it's widespread use in agriculture is the real culprit here if it is really hitting 80% of the population.
