FCS Preseason Poll

How do we end up playing top notch FCS opponents every damn year? Why can't we schedule these punching bag schools everyone else gets. I would to watch some 66-3 ass kicking where the backups get a ton of reps.
Because we love scheduling more local for FCS opponents and all tend to be good.

I have no dog in the fight but my UNI buddies who are connected would second this. They really like the staff and are building a culture the right way based on what I hear. Totally and completely different feel than Farley.
Did Farley have culture/roster issues?

I agree but we’ve seen this movie too many times. It would not shock me one bit if it’s a one score game.

Meh I think having a game under our belts will only help in that regard.

I wouldn't say that. He was pretty burned out dealing with an AD that he absolutely despised and constantly having his budget cut.

He was just holding on until the next AD could make the hire. He's on staff as an analyst part time with Wisconsin and enjoying being Grandpa.

Yes. He constantly tinkered with stuff and pissed off his staff. Not exactly a guy who cared a lot about his players.
That is pretty common at the FCS level when assistents are making peanuts. Same stories you hear from several other upper level Valley schools.

I've always said if you are in the FCS or the MAC, and you want to be a conference title contender 4 years from now, just schedule ISU 4 years from now. Things will work out for you.

USD's head coach was the D-Coordinator for Grand View from 2013-2018 before taking the same position at USD. This would have been the same time Austin Flinn was the OC at Grand View before moving back to Texas.

Geez is it really that bad? Looked at the schedule... it really is that bad.

UNI plays #1, #3, #4, #6, #20, #30 and #41. Translating this to last years' FBS final AP poll would be like playing Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Georgia, Syracuse, Kansas State, and Texas A&M. @ Wyoming might be one of their more winnable games.
Ouch.

I keep telling myself that having KSU to open the season is going to force Campbell to not come out of the gates with a conservative playbook. But I’ve seen that movie too many times to be confident this will happen.

Ideally, we’ll see a dynamic offense for KSU and a clean game for UND even if that means it’s a bit conservative.

What I see happening is a fairly open playbook against KSU. It may take a quarter or two to get there, but it will result in an ISU win. I foresee USD not being close enough for us to sweat it, but close enough that those mouth breathers out east will flip **** the entire week of the cyhawk game

This never occurred to me but you are correct. I’ve also noticed that we sign local HS players that only other offers were from the Dakota schools along with hiring staff that came from those FCS schools. I suspect we follow who they recruit and the careers of who they have signed with the possibility of an incoming transfer as they mature.

Our last 3 games against a FCS opponent have been pretty darn comfortable... Last year never even felt close even though we only won by 18... The whole first game conservative card is getting overplayed IMO.

Looking at SD stats it looks like their offensive production is balanced with a play selection skew to 60% rushing.

Looking at their game against Wisconsin. South Dakota's passing game was ineffective with only 114 yds 12-23 passing. So, an improvement on the rush defense with a healthy LB corps would contain them completely.
