Fake Punt

If it was a called fake, it wasn't from Herman. I think Messingham and Shane Burnham coach the punt, punt return, kickoff coverage, and kickoff return teams so one of them probably made that call. Might have got help from someone in the box who had a better view of the alignment, but pretty sure Herman has about 0.5% input on special teams.

I was just guessing about Herman calling it. Thanks for the insight. I figured someone from the box had a good look at the first punt, and saw something. CPR acted like he didn't call it in his interview, so I was assuming it was a right-hand man.

It looked like a read play to me...but if he would have kicked it, it probably would have been blocked. Great call either by the coaches or the kicker.

During the game, I thought that the fact it looked like a punt would have been blocked was due to it being a called fake. If you are planning on outflanking TT by running with a punter, it would be best to allow them to penetrate and be centralized, right?

Maybe it was a called read, but wouldn't the read be if TT maintains gap assignment, not whether it would be blocked?

I am pretty sure it was a called fake. The three protect guys immediately went from protect blocking to run blocking. like they knew they had to clear the way for the punter to run.

Also on the 'Cyclone Reaction' show CW got a text from someone in the Know that confirming that it was a called play.
