F1 2026 Discussion

I liked it and I think it'll only get better as teams and drivers figure stuff out, bring in upgrades, etc. Hopefully some teams can figure out the reliability issues.

Part of me agrees - but then you look at the insane increase in number of overtakes and I think this just might work

The problem is they are not real overtakes. They are not diving into corners and such. It’s just his battery is charged now so he can easily pass and then vice versa. Just think it’s fake racing and if you look at the numbers it looks good but the whole time I was watching nothing impressed me at all.

I was just happy to watch a replay on Apple TV. Didn’t realize my wife has a bundled package with her Apple Music.

There were 120 overtakes this weekend, the most in a race last year was 60. I don't particularly care if they're "real" overtakes or not, it's a new piece of strategy, and it's more fun than DRS trains. I think drivers are still figuring out the whole system too.

Lewis seems pretty happy with it. A lot happier than he was the entirety of last season.

Ferrari’s car performed really well, their strategy is really what let them from getting two in the podium

I'm going to reserve judgement for a few races. It was a promising number of overtakes this weekend which I think at the end of the day will be good for the sport. I know people are complaining that these aren't real overtakes whatever the hell that means. DRS was the same thing but it didn't work as well and we all saw the DRS train effect. This gets them closer to some that's actually usable I think. Personally I think Indycar gets this righer than anybody with their push to pass system but F1 can't just copy Indycar since the snooty Europeans will think it's beneath them.

I tried to give the apple crew a chance but as soon as I saw there was a Sky feed I switched to that and never looked back.

Are you talking about Palmer and Coulthard? I switched over to their commentary and haven't looked back, they're having a lot of fun during the race.

Yeah that's the one, I like Coulthard and I listened to them during qualifying. I just prefer listening to Brundle and Crofty. Back when I had XM radio I would sometime listen to Palmer when i was out running around on Sunday mornings and I just never really liked him. He's fine just not as good as the Sky lineup in my opinion.

Apple tv has the sky sports stream as well?
Yeah, if you press down on your remote and go to feeds you can see all the different options. Driver data, map view, each individual driver camera (which includes live radio from what I can tell), and then at the end of the list is the Sky Sports feed.

I'm in the wait and see mode too, I have no idea if this is going to be a great season to watch or a dud, and it's kind of fun that way. I know that I can't wait until Friday to see what China will look like.

The amount of energy management on the straights and especially during qualifying sucks. I think the regulations outpaced battery tech and there needs to be some rebalancing. But that's also what's making so much room for the in car strategy so what do I know.

If ferrari would've just pitted like everyone else, it probably would've been an exciting finish! Thought the beginning was fun and then I fell asleep.
