F1 2022 Discussion

Apparently McLaren think they have a claim on him and might want him, that’s the scuttlebutt anyways.

I think McLaren have their sights on someone else personally. If I had to put $5 on it I'd say they plan on one more year with Riccardo and then grabbing Pato O'Ward or Colton Herta.

Of course McLaren is involved in a driver contract dispute. What a ******** they are becoming. What are they trying to do, lock up any possible new F1 driver and just keep them locked in a stable? They can't possibly have enough seats for all the drivers they are signing to contracts.

On that, is McLaren kind of a mess right now or something? They just seem super disorganized, Danny seems to be a shell of his former self, Lando seems to be getting everything he can out of the car but the car just can't do any more (and he doesn't seem to have a problem saying it) etc. I feel like if Ferrari wasn't a complete disaster we'd be hearing a lot more about McLaren this year.

I don’t know about disorganized, Danny just isn’t performing still. Ferrari has a championship winning car and driver and have Ferrari’d themselves out of contention.

I wonder how much of it is their Indycar involvement. Seems McLaren is really pushing and focusing on Indycar. I'm not saying that Indycar is F1 by any stretch, but it's a pretty high tier racing series and could be taxing their resources in the upper management.

It seemed to me like Indycar was more about having a place where their jr drivers could complete at a high level for a relatively cheap budget. An Indycar program costs $3-$4 million where as a F2 team is about double that.

I agree, but then they start hiring more drivers than they even have Indy seats for. I wasn’t comparing Indy and F1 monetarily. I meant it more as if they built the infrastructure up enough to handle it all. They seem to be a major player in the two big open wheel contract disputes in open wheel racing right now.

Albon is staying at Williams, at least for a couple hours when he sends out his own press release that says peace out guys I'm not driving your shitbox.

Good for Alex, he's got a terrible car, and I don't see it getting much better, but continuity has to be good for the team overall.
