F*** The Refs!

I thought the refs were pretty bad yesterday favoring Iowa but ISU got some calls
  1. Punt - I still don’t think it hit Townsend but could see why that call stood. Picking up the Kick catch interference was terrible - Favor Iowa leading to 3 points
  2. On Iowa’s long 3rd quarter drive giving Iowa a first down on his 3rd-down scramble at midfield was terrible. He was a yard short and they just upheld on replay - Favor Iowa leading to 3 points
  3. On Iowa TD drive, there definitely was a hold on our DB vs their TE on the 3rd down sack. The unsportsmanlike was a soft call though and negated any chance at a goal line stand - Favor Iowa but I’ll give them the benefit of a doubt that they would have scored a TD on that drive regardless
  4. Very blatant hold on Iowa’s last play of the game. Luckily they didn’t convert - Favor Iowa but didn’t hurt ISU
  5. On the long pass to Eskildsen in the first Eskildsen pushed off to get separation that was missed. - Favor ISU led to 3 points
  6. The incomplete pass that “may” have been a lateral. I think it was forward but it was close. That one went in our direction - Favor ISU
So I have 6 badly missed or questionable calls, favoring Iowa 4-2 and 6 points to our 3
What about the constant holding by their O line?

The weirdest call might have been on that punt return where they either didn’t assess the penalty yards or were a full five yards wrong spotting the ball.

Iowa made a huge play on first down but maybe different play call if they were in 2.5 yard line as would have been correct.

From tv angle it looked like it was hooking no good and maybe over the upright. I thought it was missed live.
The best view is the ref right under the post. He didnt flinch so i assume it was ok.

Wonder if you could put a laser pointer on top of post and then if it shone on the ball you would know it "touched" the infinite upright?

Also left out a clear hold on Eskildsen, I think, on a 3rd down pass, and the long pass to Overby that was right on the money but dropped because he could only use one hand since his other arm was being held by the d-back. Two potential long pass plays broken up by defensive holding/PI that went uncalled.

Im pretty sure Iowa State had to punt after the incompletion to Eskildsen, I don’t remember how the drive with the pass to Overby played out, but both of those situations would have almost certainly resulted in at least three points if the penalties were called.

ONE MORE TIME SHOULD DO IT

IF ONLY RULES EXPERT MIKE PEREIRA MIGHT HAVE BEEN BROUGHT ON TO EXPLAIN THIS WHEN IT HAPPENED.

Seriously, they pay this guy to be their broadcast rules expert; talk about a penalty flag resulting in Iowa’s drive starting at the 2 1/2 yard line, which is what Joel Klatt said just before they went to commercial; then come back with Iowa lined up at the 5 with zero reference to the prior penalty - and they don’t even go to Pereria to give us an explanation.

Maybe they figured everybody would just forget during the interminable 4 minute commercial break.

Missed the non DPI/ holding call on our last drive, on the play previous to Burkle tipped pass. I believe the Football gods granted us karma there.

Was that the long pass to Overby where his arm was being held and he couldn’t haul in the perfect throw by Rocco with one hand? That was such a glaring PI that went uncalled, but I didn’t remember how that drive turned out.

Any part over the post, FG is no good.
When did this change? Saturdays is inside the outside edge, Sundays is entirely inside the inside edge when going over uprights. So the ball can go over the upright and still be good on Saturdays.

Pereira may have been buzzed in on a different game at the time? I don't know how that works, but he's definitely not locked in on one game only at a given time on Saturdays or Sundays.
