Eustachy is on KXNO

While I appreciate what LE did at ISU, please don't rewrite history. His last couple years, the program was a mess. He ran it into the ground. Players leaving left and right, he never had a team more than 8 players deep. Ever. He was out of control around town and people knew this. He ws a horrible role model for kids and a very poor leader. ISU is still trying to get on its feet with its basketball program after the long term damage he did.

Thanks for reiterating this - most fans have no idea of how he acted at Whiskey River, Wallaby's, and on and on...

Agreed. I wasn't in school during the LE years, so the only experience I had with him was seeing him on the sideline at games. (and in the Rag as the state's highest paid employee)

Not trying to start this whole debate up again because it has been beat to death but can you look at the mess we have dealt with today and say that had we put Larry on a suspension, say for 1 year to prove he had taken care of his alchohol problems then reinstated him that we'd be in the same situation we are in now with the revolving door of players? I know some will say that he had a revolving door too but the difference was he still won despite that while we haven't been able to do much other than a few moments under Morgan.

I thought the same thing. Send LE to rehab for a year and let WM coach the team. LE comes back and with WM's recruiting ability, they take the program to new levels. BUT, LE burned a lot of bridges, including BVDV. He basically made it easy for them to fire him. BVDV was looking for an excuse and LE gave it to him on a silver platter.

I could provide a lot more, as could joefrog and countless others around town - I don't know what Jeremy would consider allowable and appropriate.

good thinking Tornado man... rumors or libel about a person isn't needed around here.

-keep.

You're right about that!
President Geoffrey never liked LE from the minute he (GG) got here. I think BVDV was ordered by GG to remove LE.

BTW, nice fish ya got there Bmuff!

Just find someone you know that lived here and went out during those times. Everyone I know from the LE days that went out often have at least 1 story about him....

I was here for 2 of those years, but I didn't go out since I was young, so I don't have any first hand experience or anything.

Please don't hammer me here for being honest and sharing my opinion on this matter.

I wonder how many Cyclone fans are like my wife and I and have barely followed ISU men's BB since LE was let go? For the success he brought to the program, he should have been given a chance to come back after rehab.

Neither of his sucessors provided creditials enough coming into the job to give me confidence in them that they can do for ISU what LE did. So far, they've lived up to those expectations.

If he was to be believed, given the choice, LE was here for the remainder of this coaching career.

I'll always wonder "what if…"

The "what-ifs" can be anything you want them to be. The "what-weres" are there in black and white. He caught lightening in a bottle for 1 year when we were potential natl champions. The second "great" year showed the wheels spinnning off the bus at an alarming rate (Baylor in conf tourney, Hampton)...

We should all be looking ahead to the future. Dwelling in the past is for folks who've quit trying.

You gotta give some of that success to Floyd too though. He brought in Fizer....

That said, I love basketball. If a program is going to be successful, you gotta support the team through the bad times. If everyone cuts the cord, then it's that much harder to bounce back.

I personally love Mac. He is a great coach, and I have 100% confidence he can bring ISU back if given enough time.

I will continue to follow the team because I know better days are ahead. To me, there is more to a season than wins and losses.

Hopefully, very few.

I think this would be a pretty good indicator:

school.........year..overall conf post season
Southern Miss 2004-05 11-17 (2-14) --
Southern Miss 2005-06 10-21 (3-11) --
Southern Miss 2006-07 20-11 ( 9-7) --
Southern Miss 2007-08 19-14 ( 9-7) --

Just my opinion, but we are over 5 years removed from Eustachy, and it seems a little ridiculous to blame him for the problems in our basketball program at this point! At this point the program most definitely belongs to Pollard and Mcdermott.

Also, yeah, LE had a drinking problem. Big deal, we all have our problems in life and there are a lot worse things one can do than have a hard time managing ones alcohol intake. Just look down I-80, where the athletic dept is trying to cover up violent felony rapes.

Eustachy could drink, chase women and be obnoxious every day for the rest of his life and he would still be a better man than anybody who tried to keep a gang rape "in-house, and informally handled." Just my opinion on life.

Hopefully, very few.

Wish we woulda had 19 and 20 wins the last 2 years

Those were 19 and 20 C-USA wins. Notice the absence of any post-season appearances. Isn't that what you really want?

Actually, last year according to the RPI S. Miss was only 15-14. How is that do you ask? They played FOUR D2 teams. I mean that is absolutely unbelievable to me.

And he's competing with C-USA talent. You can't make the argument both ways to his detriment....pick a side. Given the talent LE is an outstanding coach.
