ESPN Laying Off Additional On-Air Personalities

I don't feel differently about either. It sucks. I'm not going to dance in their grave.

These ESPN folks now have an unknown future with very real possibilities of pay cuts or long term unemployment. So what if they make more.

Financial hardship isn't fun for anyone

I think we completely agree here. All I'm saying is that it's much harder for people working paycheck to paycheck. You better not be living paycheck to paycheck at 95k per year or you have other issues.

I guess I feel for these people sure, but many more people lose jobs every single day that are making FAR less and struggling a LOT more than these personalities. If these people are intelligent at all they should have quite a bit of money put away and they will land on their feet just fine. Still stinks for them, but it's not as big of a deal as some make it out to be.

When someone at McDonalds making close to minimum wage gets laid off, people will say "well, I guess they weren't needed".... but somehow we're supposed to feel differently about these ESPN personalities? Obviously they weren't needed either when it all came down to it, right?

Yeah, it sucks for anyone losing job. Hell, I'm so afraid of it that I picked a major that was specifically known for having lots of job possibilities. And, even in that stable career, 9 years go, I was a week away from being unemployed before I found a new job. And that was enough to drive me crazy. I can't imagine the stress of being in a field where layoffs are so prevalent.

Depends on where you live and your situation. $95k isn't FU money. It's pretty good, but not crazy money in a lot of areas

That's why I liked Hassel better than John Sears or Andy Garmon who barely can conceal their disdain for Iowa State.

Soundoff hasn't been the same since Hassel left. Throwing in Sears and reducing Andy's role has made it unwatchable.

I used to watch Soundoff regularly. Now, I'll watch the Murphy's law segment Monday mornings before work but that's it.

Sports networks are getting rid of people who get college degrees to go into this line of work because they would rather have a former sports star who speaks ebonics and you can't understand a word they are saying. Deion Sanders comes to mind. And I can't stand Charles Barkley, I wish his racist ass would just retire already.

I think you fail to understand the difference between "analysts" (which have always been former players and coaches) and anchors and reporters (which are usually the college educated people).

It's not like the guy made gobs and gobs of money. Weird for people to take so much pleasure in someone like that with a family to support losing his job all in the name of fandom. But whatever.

Fortunately on here it only seems to be a handful of people, if that.

I agree. I liked him because he never tried to hide his true colors. He never tried to pass off his opinions as unbiased. If anything he would exaggerate his opinions to make them ridiculous. It was never condescending because you knew he wasn't thinking of himself as objective. You don't get any of that with Sears.

Hassel should try out for SNL before he leaves New England.

He would have to leave New England to try out for SNL - it's in New York City.

JFC, it was one guy's **** comment, ONE. As if Hassel is a coal miner or something. He'll be fine. ESPN is the devil anyway.
