Elf on the Shelf

We have Rosie the Elf. My oldest figured out that we move it but is being a good sport and not spoiling it for younger sister this year. We don't do anything crazy with it other than move it around to different places in the room and maybe on occasion write a note if behavior has been bad or something. Today she is hanging from the ceiling fan and left a note with a box of Elf on the Shelf cereal for breakfast. When we put our tree up later this week she'll probably be sitting on top of the tree the next morning. We have these metal reindeer decorations we put out on our mantle that she will probably be riding on 1 at some point too.

Yeah, I didn't really mind the moving it around part. It's more the elaborate stuff. If the wife went to bed before me and I forgot to move it, I got a bunch of crap about it from her. Or worse, if I just moved it and put it someplace, I'd catch hell for being "boring". Just something else to argue about over the holidays. That's why I don't miss it.

Yep. This is what kills it. If all I had to do was hide it every day, no big deal. But it is all the internet nonsense with these elaborate scenes, props, costumes etc that really makes it a pain. My wife sees all these ideas on her socials and then all of a sudden just hiding the elf isn't enough. I get a good laugh seeing some of these things, but have no interest in putting in the effort to actually do them myself.

My 13 year old asked for us to do "Leonardo" this year, even though she knows it's not real, she enjoys the memories. Hard to say no to something that makes her so happy, but that MF er was a lot of work every December.

It definitely sucked some nights, but my daughter loved Tom the Elf. She wrote notes, he wrote back and we kept them all. I stumbled onto them a few months ago after she went off to college and found myself sobbing as I was reading them.

I wouldn't trade that lack of sleep for anything

I’ve never done anything but move him around. Takes 2 minutes. Kids love it and likely wouldn’t get any more enjoyment out of the elaborate setups.

I'm so glad this hadn't really taken off when my kids were born and we never made the mistake of buying into it when it did take off. Advent is stressful enough with people thinking Christmas starts around Halloween and we have to be thinking Christmas for two solid months.

Good call. Because once you do something more elaborate a couple times just for kicks, you start down a slippery slope!

If only they had these during our EOTS days!! I might have enjoyed creating the scenes more!!

I like the video of the dog chewing him up, and you hear the kid screaming and crying and saying to the dog "your a monster"

Its just hilarious, the way the kid says it.

The dog got after ours a number of years back but the kids never saw it. My wife went to the store to get a replacement and came back with one a few shades darker in skin tone. That’s was fun to explain away.

Found it, or at least a version of someone using the audio from the original.

I think this is the original.
