Anybody know why they fought harkonen soldiers on the ground by the harvester while being mowed down by machine gun fire when in the end they just blew it up with a concealed laser from a nearby rock formation?

Why not just shoot it with the laser?

Why marry the emperors daughter if the other houses won't accept him as emperor?

Why are we nuking spice fields? What good would that even do, the worms would just make more. Or literally anyone could threaten this at any time.

Why didn't they teach the weirding way? The fremen could have done almost all of that without a messiah.

How do you get a pregnant woman in a cocun on a worm traveling what seems like 200 mph?

Why fight the Sardakar on the ground when you can just run them down with worms?

Why is Cheney so pissed off all the time even though he told her what would happen the whole time?

Why did the Fremen leave the planet to fight the other houses when they were all there ready to invade Arakis?

The non believers accept that a person can be trained to resist that poison, but the only 2 people who ever drank it have lived, so why didn't they drink it to prove it was even poisonous?

How can anyone be trained to survive being poisoned?

Why use old Fashioned artillery when you have lasers?

Why risk your life in a dust cloud you made while fighting people who only win by sneaking up on you?

Why not use shields in the opening scene while under ranged attack on top of a huge rock?

Why not use those jet packs any other time they might be useful? Like escaping worms or sneaking up on people

This movie just has a lot of problems

There’s a little thing called suspension of disbelief which is essential to enjoying movies.

Many of these have easy answers. I'll address one. Chani knew he had a choice to enslave the Galaxy in the holy war and he chose power.

Saw it last night. Thought it was extremely well done. Heard audible gasps when some of the secrets were revealed. 10/10.

So you liked it?
It was pretty. I did enjoy Stilgars fanatisism.

Why can't it just make sense? In the dune mini series, they use their stealth to attack harkonen without loosing men. They sabotage the harvester, (that doesn't have insect legs and tracks for propulsion) and then steal the thopters so they can aquire more military hardware for their rebellion.

Maybe their effectiveness was too good, but if you were sabotaging the harvester with a sticky bomb it would show why the harkonen would have men on the ground trying to make sure that didn't happen and give you a reason not to just destroy it with your very effective laser.

But what was the alternative? It wasn't Fremen being free and them being happy together, or justice being done.

Why mary Irulan at all? All the houses reject his assension.... So.... How about just not marry her and go on a jihad. All the sardakar are dead, so.... Just Fremen alone going to take the whole universe.

Irulan is a piece on the board. She's also a part of the Bene Gesserit so Paul's foresight knows she is important to his cause. As far as if there was even a choice, of course there was. He chose his legacy over Chani and also the 'white savior' route. Paul may not have had many options but manipulating everyone through the prophecy was one she was always against.

Why can't it just make sense?

I was maybe the most critical person of the first Dune in this thread. I thought it didn't make sense at times and I thought some choices in it were kind of incoherant.

I don't feel that way about this one at all. Sounds like you and I disagree. There are honestly pretty easy answers to your questions, but I doubt you'd find them satisfying so I'll save my time.

Whatever you do, don't go see the new Twister movie. Your rant over that will be about 20 pages long.

Why didn't Tarkin seal off the small thermal exhaust port? Is he stupid?

Why didn't the Nazis just shoot Indiana and Marian when they had one of a million chances?

These movies just had a lot of problems.

How is she important in a fallen house with no army, no economy, nothing...? So what she Bene Gesserit? Why does Paul care about those people? Why would they do anything for him at this point?

Without the guild in this film, do we even know why anyone cares about the spice, beyond it has something to do with some people getting money?

She is the daughter of an emperor with no sons.

Wonder if marrying her lends significant legitimacy to your claim to the throne...

It's well established the spice is the lifeblood of the Imperium's economy.

So you actually watched both movies and it was somehow lost on you that spice gives humans essentially psionic abilities? You don't think that would make it pretty valuable and sought after?

Where do they explain that? If anything the reverend mother ceremony on another planet might not use spice, we just know it did here

But the claim was rejected by all the houses... They said that in the movie. So who is left to care he did it?

I would argue that contextually it's pretty obvious the spice gives prescience at the very least. You know, how Paul starts having visions of the future when he's exposed to the spice. I've talked to friends who knew nothing about Dune going in who picked that up pretty easily. I havent had a chance to see part 2, but I would guess there is lots of additional ways to tell. Well made movies don't need long exposition dumps to explain every detail.

Because spice controls the ability to travel beyond your own locality in the universe. Can you imagine the power it would unlock if we could travel to other galaxies?

As far as the Bene Gesserit, Paul is using them to control his influence. He knows the outcomes. At this point they're all just pieces in his story. They intended to build a mind to shape the universe. He's here and whatever he deems necessary is absolute.

That is also what Chani is upset about. He chose that over love.

Yeah.... But they didn't determine that all of civilization breaks down without it. I mean... Those things are nice, but without making a deal about the navigators going blind it's not nearly as big of a deal.

The emperor is also made to be covering up his shame not making sure the spice flows.

Maybe that's the point, then all the other houses even can rebel against paul, spice is nice, not essential.

No they don't have to tell you but they don't really show it being used off world.
Why didn't the Nazis just shoot Indiana?
Does that make everything ok? Dune 2000 had less holes in it.

I'll try to address some of this.

How is she important in a fallen house with no army, no economy, nothing...? So what she Bene Gesserit? Why does Paul care about those people? Why would they do anything for him at this point? There is no evidence the Sardaukar were all destroyed in the battle. Paul cares about the Bene Gesserit because they have influence with all of the great houses and he doesn't want to rule through straight power like Harkonnens.

Without the guild in this film, do we even know why anyone cares about the spice, beyond it has something to do with some people getting money? The spice is clearly very important to the great houses, because as soon as Paul says he's going to nuke the spice fields if the houses attack they all leave. This is a 3 hour movie already, some stuff needs to be streamlined.

Yeah.... But they didn't determine that all of civilization breaks down without it. I mean... Those things are nice, but without making a deal about the navigators going blind it's not nearly as big of a deal. It doesn't have to be as big of a deal. We know it's an extremely big deal based on how everyone reacts to it. There isn't time for all of the information from the book.

Maybe that's the point, then all the other houses even can rebel against paul, spice is nice, not essential. Clearly it's very essential based on the behavior of the characters in the movie.

No they don't have to tell you but they don't really show it being used off world. Okay, I don't think it's necessary at all.

Does that make everything ok? Dune 2000 had less holes in it. Dune 2000 was absolute effin CHEEKS

Anybody know why they fought harkonen soldiers on the ground by the harvester while being mowed down by machine gun fire when in the end they just blew it up with a concealed laser from a nearby rock formation? Maybe they were still learning the best way to fight them. Maybe we just wanted a cool scene where Zendaya is running while an ornithopter explodes in the background.

Why not just shoot it with the laser? I don't know.

Why marry the emperors daughter if the other houses won't accept him as emperor? Paul can see all outcomes. Perhaps we just have to trust one of the characters in the movie has more information than we do.

Why are we nuking spice fields? What good would that even do, the worms would just make more. Or literally anyone could threaten this at any time. Obviously spice production has been extremely limited. a threat like that would probably work, and it did. Offworlders don't know the worms make spice or how it's produced.

Why didn't they teach the weirding way? The fremen could have done almost all of that without a messiah. Yeah, that's kind of the point of the movie. Chani repeatedly said they don't need the Mahdi. They probably didn't. But because of the way the Bene Gesserit convinced the people there it was probably the only way to activate the fanatics.

How do you get a pregnant woman in a cocun on a worm traveling what seems like 200 mph? Literally don't care

Why fight the Sardakar on the ground when you can just run them down with worms? 1. worms can't go everywhere. 2. It looks cool to have them fight.

Why is Cheney so pissed off all the time even though he told her what would happen the whole time? He obviously didn't tell her everything.

Why did the Fremen leave the planet to fight the other houses when they were all there ready to invade Arakis? Because the great houses left after he threatened to nuke the spike fields.

The non believers accept that a person can be trained to resist that poison, but the only 2 people who ever drank it have lived, so why didn't they drink it to prove it was even poisonous? All of the reverend mothers on Arrakis have drank the water of life.

How can anyone be trained to survive being poisoned? Umm... it's a sci fi story. People have special abilities. Kind of part of the whole thing.

Why use old Fashioned artillery when you have lasers? When lasers hit shields they create a nuclear explosion, and the movie is a lot less interesting then.

Why risk your life in a dust cloud you made while fighting people who only win by sneaking up on you? hubris

Why not use shields in the opening scene while under ranged attack on top of a huge rock? they don't bring them in the desert because they attract worms.

Why not use those jet packs any other time they might be useful? Like escaping worms or sneaking up on people Probably the same reason why Sky doesn't just fly to spot to fix the problem right away in every episode of paw patrol.

This movie just has a lot of problems This movie is as good as you're going to get from a major motion picture sci fi movie. If this doesn't work for you then just give up now.
