I feel like I did when I was waiting for the next Star Wars movie to come out. Dune is a cinematic masterpiece with such a creative riveting story.

I’m glad Villeneuve was willing to take the Dune universe on and do it justice. 9 out of 10 Harkonnen agree.

I don't know how old you are, but if that is anything after The Phantom Menace, then I would question at least your sanity if not your taste. Star Wars needs to ride off into the sunset already.

Dune, however? Keep injecting that into my veins!

I’m referring to the gap between the 1977 Star Wars: A New Hope, and 1980 Empire Strikes Back. I honestly thought the wait was going to kill me.

Don’t get me started on the May 25th, 1983 release date of Return of the Jedi.

And yeah, the more Dune the better.

In hindsight Lucas should have said "three was enough."

Suck!!!
I thought Dune 2 wrapped shooting before the strike. Sounds like it's just an issue because they can't promote the movie using actors at press junkets. It would be funny if they rolled with the fx animations instead :jimlad:

At some point all the writers and actors are going to sign projects with indie studios which are playing ball and lock out the big studios.

I hope theaters start showing older movies. Hoping for a 10 year anniversary re-release of Interstellar next year. I would live at the theater if I could see the Pirates, Harry Potter, Marvel, Dark Knight movies on the big screen again.

It certainly beats their options at the height of covid in terms of the bottom line. Packaged, promoted and even merchandised correctly it could make some $$$ and they get some concessions money. It's not like there will be a complete dry spell of new movies, they'll just need to fill in some gaps.

Intersteller was awesome in iMax. Fury Road was another one and they could show it with Furiosa not too far off.

Ok, I'm finally getting around to asking this after watching Dune several weeks ago.

What is so good about it? IN MY PERSONAL OPINION (you downvoters) It seems slow, boring, and lacking in energy. It felt like a movie without a purpose.

I think the acting, cinematography, special effects, costume and set design are all top notch. The sense of scale Villeneuve brings to Dune is amazing. Its a visual treat. That said it does have slow pacing, and for those not familiar with Dune I can see where it's probably a little odd and confusing. You have to be a hardcore sci-fi fan to appreciate that aspect of it IMO.

I mean, in me, almost everything. There are points where I guess I can understand your points but IDK, I always felt like it was based to set up this coming movie. Which I'm incredibly bummed it got delayed.

And I don't know, for me, seeing something I think that captures some of the Dune Universe well - not perfectly, granted, but well.

I mean, in the Dune book series, IDK, I felt it was kind of life like. There wern't a lot of "good" characters but just ones who sucked slightly less than the others. I mean, the Baron is pretty much straight up villain but at the same time, Paul isn't exactly what I'd call a hero, at least in the books.

So I always felt like that was more life like in that you got more flawed or failed hero types than the typical straight up good-evil a lot of stories give

Totally understand why it did. Just still totally bummed it did at the same time. I've been ready to see part 2 since the first trailer. Probably sooner but especially since then

For me I was drawn in by the visuals and atmospheric music/audio. It was light on action and heavy on world/character introduction so I absolutely get your line of thought. I’d expect the next one to move past that a bit and onto action and such.

While I'm a monstrous fan of the movie and the book, I totally get how a decent size portion of the audience could feel the exact way as you. Dune is for sure hardcore sci-fi, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. Thus, for many out there who probably came in expecting/hoping to see something similar to Star Wars, Dune just isn't that. Dune is much slower-paced, cerebral and serious in tone than Star Wars, which is more of a fun space adventure. Both have their merits and Star Wars is always destined to appeal to a larger audience. Regardless, to each their own. Glad you at least gave it a shot. For us Dune book fans, I'd probably argue this movie is about as good of a book to movie adaptation as I've ever seen. To me, Dune and the LOTR trilogy are the two best.

Read the book. It's incredible on so many levels. Just one part of it is "your mom wants you to pretend to be Space Jesus to convince a bunch of oppressed people to follow you, so you can avenge your father and gain power. But it turns out you actually ARE Space Jesus. " And that's only like 25% of the story.

The movie is great because it does a good job at capturing some of the immensity of the book. Without having read the book, though, I can understand your response.

Good points, thanks all. I had never read the books so didn't have context to much of it going in and expected something a little different. I do agree the cinematography of it was wonderful and could be a great adaptation of a book to movie that is very difficult to pull off.
