Dreaming Time: North Endzone

Agree with all the comments about the press box before ever talking about the NEZ.

I think it goes back to donations and bang for your buck. Pollard talked about this on the podcast. Expanding Johnny's allowed them to add 100 people to that donation level. Pollard only spoke to the incremental change from $5000 to $12,500; but that increased donations by $750,000.
They could try to do something similar with the Press Box. Maybe demand wouldn't be as high as it is in Johnny's, but there's probably some opportunity there to really increase annual donations.

I heard that explanation as well and was really impressed at that logic (I hadn't thought of it as a donation level vs actual seat cost, etc). CPR said on the call in show the press box would be the next thing on his wish list.

But boy, can you imagine if we DID have even Baylor like success in the next few year...with the fan base we have, it'd be even more nuts!

Photos of the new south endzone have me very excited for the first game this year, just to see how different things look, sound and feel. That being said, it has me wondering what the stadium would look like if the north endzone was completely bowled in as well.

Dreaming Time: Will the North Endzone ever be bowled in? If so, how long?

Yes, but it will take having a decade of success. If we were to ever win enough to pull in more "free agent" fans 65k would be feasible.

I always said that when I win the Powerball I am paying for the North Endzone Upper Deck to be connected above the Jacobson Building. It will require putting a even bigger video board on top of the North End Zone Upper deck too.

Or

If I ever become President I will make Mexico pay for it.

If we happen to both win the lotto, I'll direct my donation to re-routing the Skunk river so we can compete with Baylor and their boat up to the stadium.

Oh, and I'll also buy hundreds of variations of uniforms and demand we NEVER have two same combos ever again.....because we'll then have all the recruits we can handle.:jimlad:

Is that you, Donald?

Please dear god expand the wimpy press box first. Then Id like to see them add a thin third tier across the top of either side.

No need to bowl in the whole thing for quite some time.

Honestly we probably dont see many seats added for a long time.

This project makes sense because 3000 of the seats are premium. Is there demand for another couple thousand of those? No. Similarly you wouldnt do a 3rd deck as those seats also would be fairly worthless. Plus i imagine any NEZ project would be much more expensive with needing 1- demolition of a much larger existing structure, 2- replacement of that facility, 3- whatever new seating\club section youre adding. If you think it took long to do the SEZ, it'll be longer for this.

As far as press box goes... everyone says it, but there are a lot of obstacles to that. Firstly, how do you support it? You cant just hang it off the existing one, and the place where supports would go for additional sections of that now has concessions buildings there. And again, is there demand? We have a smaller press box, but we make up for that by having a nice slate of suites (which are what 'press boxes' really are these days) in between the decks.

My guess is that the Jack Trice Club will eventually be expanded from endzone to endzone. Not too major of a renovation, and is a pretty normal spot for club areas in other stadiums of similar design. (WVU, NCSU)

What about doing the same upper deck in NEZ as SEZ and leaving hillsides as is for families? Maybe that would look totally weird.

Probably never enough demand for third deck on east or west, but would look nice to have suites (if demand calls for it) on both sides.

Hell, I was a kid (11) when stadium was opened in 1975 and attended the first game with my dad. He said, "Someday they will enclose one or both of the ends because the team will be great and the fans will come from all over." Now he is 90.

No matter what, I am just looking forward to taking my youngest son to a game this year and saying something about the team being great in the future and the fans coming from all over. Hope that happens before I am 90.

Expand the jake on each side making it more club seats that don't actually connect to the east and west seats but fill in the hills. I think that would kind of finish the look inside and probably wouldn't be near as expensive as what we just did to the SEZ

How about this? :D

I really doubt they'll ever bowl in the north endzone. I could see them getting some more permanent bleachers there for the band, or whoever sits there in the future. I think enough people like the grass seats that they'll probably keep them, at least for the next couple decades that is.

Personally I'd much rather see a full length or at least three quarters length press box than a bowled in north endzone.

In fact, facades all the way around the stadium would probably be higher on my list than the north endzone.

Facades = cost without function. Iowa State can't afford to be spending money only on looks.
