Doomsday Scenario: MWC or AAC?

Agreed. Would be livid if we ended up there.

Yea, that would be terrible. We would end up in a stable conference, one with schools close by, a conference that is going to get paid big in a couple years, and oh yeah, we aren't in a G5 conference and don't lose millions of dollars a year that threaten the entire athletic department.

That would be terrible.

If you had to choose between saving the life of your best friend and 100 people you've never met die or saving the lives of 100 people you've never met but your best friend dies, which would you do?

There is no way to answer because we don't know what those conferences will look like at that time.

I'd let 100 people die and its not even close. I think somewhere around 10 million strangers is the over under for me. Only b/c that puts me in Hitler territory, and I don't want to be that evil.

I'll be honest, the scenario presented is actually an old school psychology scenario on helping determine if one has psychopathic tendencies.

Not trolling and not desperate.

I am simply concerned about ISU's athletic future, and I do NOT have my head in the sand. Obviously, I hope the Big Xii survives and prospers. However, If it does break up, I hope ISU can land softly in the B1G or the Pac. However, I will not hold my breath. Just curious about which of these two conferences would be most attractive.

Some folks think about football first, and others think about basketball first. That's all.

In terms of expansion/realignment...no one thinks about basketball. It has zero impact, ask the former big east teams now in the AAC.

Why is the big12 breaking up????

Did I miss something over the past few days? I have been drunk, but I am confused on what's going on.

If you care about Iowa state athletics, you should.

Seriously??? This is our only hope of staying in a power conference if the Big 12 dissolves. We should all be praying that by some miracle the B1G invites us.

Texas and OU are not leaving within the next 8 years. And if they leave after that, the Big 12 is not dissolving.

By 2023 I think the "cord cutters" impact on the TV landscape will be not only in full effect, but maybe the national norm. If that's the case, then the current Big 12 TV model will be the one copied, rather that having cable/sat. conference networks. Ala carte network selection online is the future of TV, IMO.

Well, the OU President is kind of making waves these days with his comments. IMO, if the big fish (OU and Texas) really cared about the long-term success of the Big Xii, they would encourage expansion. Either way, if the Big Xii gets raided, which is very possible, ISU will be left in P5 Siberia. Man, I hope I am WRONG!

Texas is making huge $$$ with revenue sharing + LHN (for 20 years). Why in the world would they leave that to go somewhere else and make $10 mil less?

Where is Oklahoma going to go? Pac12 to make less money? To the SEC to make similar money?

I really had to check if the date what correct on this thread...

If we are talking about scenarios that won't happen, then I prefer we go to the Big 10 or SEC.

The real Doomsday Scenario for ISU: B1G

I know this is a joke but I am curious what the actual worst-case-scenario "doomsday" would be for ISU. I think it would involve a 4 x 16 conference model plus Notre Dame that leaves Iowa State in the cold, because the current Power Five conferences plus ND total 65 schools. Something like:

*The Pac-16 that almost happened before comes to pass, and Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State join that conference.

*Seeing the writing on the wall, Notre Dame finally calls the Big Ten and tells them they want in; the B1G adds the Irish along with Kansas.

*The SEC sees a great opportunity to break into DFW and grabs TCU along with West Virginia.

*The ACC, needing 16 as well, has the opportunity to get into Texas with Baylor and chooses Kansas State over Iowa State due to recent success in football for team #16.

In that scenario ISU would be the lone Power Five team left in the cold after all the chips fell. So there is your real doomsday scenario (that won't happen).

Notre Dame is already in the ACC for everything other than football. If they gave in and joined a conference for football it would seem much more likely they'd just add their football to the ACC rather than totally moving conferences.
