What makes you think we have one that can? Is he being blamed for previous coaches recruiting now? Seems fitting of posters here I guess.
"Have one that can" what? No where did I blame MM for previous recruiting. And, you're a tad off base.

I don't have a definative answer as to why but regarding g ISU, I have to think there is a reason why we can't real in the big talent. It's never really been done under any staff so what makes you think it's just a coach away? It might be deeper then that.
You said he decides what player goes on the field in response to CTT saying sam missed throws on the field. Saying that, you are insinuating that he picked the inaccurate option. I said maybe their isn't anyone at QB that is very accurate. No need to back peddle
I get what your are saying, but its not about living in the past of what we have done or have not done. It's about now and gauging vs. other Big 12 teams. We have had coaches who brought in very good defensive talent (see Earl Bruce years and the 2004 McCarney team, and even the team we had 3 years ago).
Its about recruiting Football players...what I mean by that is give me a kid that may not run a 4.5 at LB, but is a Jesse Smith type kid...tough, hits hard, smart..a Football player. Always in the right position, good at basic footwork and tackling fundamentals. A kid that gets recruited to play the same position he played in high school in the Front 7 that understands what to do instead of learning on the fly. We have been robbing Peter to pay Paul so many times in the recent history in the front 7 ie., making safeties into LB's, DE's into DT's on necessity etc, (which is fine if a kid truly grows into it, but not as a regular rule).
We need a younger DC with a strong history like Mangino or on his way to that, who knows the Chicago, St. Louis, Houston, Atlanta, or FL areas well who will go on the road to actually recruit those areas HARD, scout players in person, ala. Mangino in DFW, and not delegate it. All hands on deck. 85% of the kids on Scholarship should come from outside Iowa in the football rich states. Anything less is settling, fine for a few but not the majority of your defense.
As was mentioned above, adding ex-Penn State DC Tom Bradley to their staff this year as assoc. head coach and DL coach has changed everything for them. Night and day difference in defense compared to last year.Speaking of WVU, did they make any big changes in the off season that helped lead to suck a great season? I am curious.

There's no question in my mind that the staff that recruited this team is not nearly as good at talent evaluation and player development than what is needed at ISU. I've reserved judgement and kept my mouth shut about the Strength and Conditioning of our guys for long enough - everything I see in that regard from leverage, strength, conditioning and injuries tell me that this area is failing relative to our competition. We don't have enough Big12 caliber linemen and linebackers, which is half your team. We finally have some skill guys who are Big12 caliber - not top25 level but solid Big12 guys - and our OL isn't good, and DL and LB positions are awful. We had the reverse in the past where we had some good guys and a few NFL quality and then not one skill guy who was solid Big12 caliber.
We have a long ways to go to get the talent level up, and get them really developed. I know there will be defenders of our S&C staff, but the results are obvious that it isn't adequate. We also have had far too many misses in recruiting with a level of attrition that will kill a program like ISU. These things have hamstrung Rhoads' regime at this point. The other problem was the huge mistake of promoting Messingham, which was a colossal blunder.
You could see that WV's defense was different in their very first game against Alabama. It was startling. After being awful (certainly not salty) in their first 2 years in the Big 12, Holgorsen promoted his safeties coach to DC and hired Bradley:The bottom line is WV has been in the league for 3 years and they are kicking our *** in recruiting on the defensive side of the ball. Doesn't surprise me what they are doing in offense, because that is their identity. But their defense is Salty, which is basically what CPR promised us when he took the job. Ours should be on the same level, IMO. Not all world, but much better than where we are now.
I think Wally needs to retire, and the DC needs to be someone new, not his son. Nothing against him, but the DL play has not been great either. Injuries are certainly a big factor in what happened today. Without Jensen, Cousins, Garcia, Miller or Tribune playing Bobby had to be licking his chops. No excuse for the sub whiffing multiple times on tackles though.
Ummmmmmm.......all of them?

Bumping this. We all brought our pitch forks when Messingham was in town. I feel like we give Wally the biggest pass of all time. How can A 72 year old man relate to kids 18-22 years old?

How is it different? CPR was also responsible for players on offense when messingham was here.
