It's too much youth, that's what it is. I'm all in on Nojus, I think he's going to be a very good player for us but is stuck behind a lot of talent and seniority this year. He's a sniper. Batemon is being heralded as the best HS 3pt shooter in the entire country. Those aren't my words, but, he'll be a freshman so it's hard to count on that transitioning right away. Tamin is shooting with a broken thumb, so I'll cut him some slack.

With all that being said, yeah, we need another guy who can put the ball through the net and that will come from the transfer portal. There is no doubt in my mind that we're going to hit the portal again for a guy to play the 2 or wing that can flat out score.

I think the shopping list for the portal is pretty easy.

No more Gilbert --> need a secondary PG to spell Tamin

No more Jones (and maybe Milan to the NBA?) --> need shooting... gotta be a stud SG or wing out the who can shoot and score who isn't as much about the $$$ and just wants to win

No more Chat --> need a backup big man... shouldn't be too hard to find a big body from one of those low-major West Coast conference TJ likes to watch at night that should be in our price range

Exactly. Milan will be interesting. I think he comes back for one more year, but who knows. As far as Chat, I'm hopeful that JT will be ready to play those minutes and in my opinion SHOULD be ready to play those minutes. If he's not, then I don't think he ever will be.

100% Agree

Will be great if a Freshman or Nojus hits as scoring star next year, but can not count on that. ISU needs 3pt shooting, right now Milan and Jones and you lose Jones. Certainly hoping Tamin could have better year with no injury(s) but even then more 3pt shooting / scoring will help

Just to tamper expectations a bit... he's primarily playing for the Porsche BBA (the B league) on a team that is 6-12. The majority of the league appears to be German guys aged 18-20 so he is playing against "like" competition and not high level former NCAA guys in most of the highlight videos posted.

He is putting up good numbers and the team appears to run through him. He's polished in the paint and seems to be a good athlete with some defensive positioning instincts.

Thank you for a rational take
Based upon Clon3's comments my rational take is that he's like Tim Duncan without the swimming background.

I would say a young sophomore is one too many seasons early to give up on a big man being Big 12 ready. But yeah, if he's not ready by his junior year, then it is best to move on.

Big men are supposed to come at a premium in the transfer portal... and I'm sure they do... but they've done well with some guys off the scrap heap like Big Rob, TK3, and Ward in the past.

Maybe not, however he would be in the program for 3 years. I would hope he'd be ready to see some minutes. I'm probably being a bit critical though.

Have not watched any of the highlights yet. But what I am imagining we are getting is the next Lucca Staiger.
They're very different. Lucca was a 6'5" 3 point specialist. This kid is a 6'9" stretch 4.

That is 100 percent not true on the NIL front. And Iowa State is not planning on increasing scholarships. Any increase in a men’s scholarship requires an increase on a women’s scholarship. Iowa State needs as much funding as possible to help with revenue sharing and won’t be increasing scholarships as those cost money.
Have you considered not being poor?
