Dodge Vehicles

I need advice. The college kid needs a vehicle and given the costs for used vehicles I am looking at the best deals available. I see five-to-seven year old Dodge Journeys out there low miles under $10k. The last Chrysler product I owned was an Eagle Vision in the 90s and I vowed I would never buy another Chrysler. Should I stick to my guns and stay away or are my fears overblown? Wife says AWD is a must other than that make and model doesn’t matter. My buddy only buys Chryslers and never has an issue. Thoughts?
We got our daughter a Nissan Rogue used. It has been super solid for her. That with basic Honda CRV or Toyota RAV are hard to beat.

I wouldn't buy a Chrysler product made after the "Daimler era" ended. And I still currently own 3 vehicles from that era that are still running strong. (Trying to keep the rust at bay.)

I've never had any issues with dodge/jeep/Chrysler vehicles.... all have been good.
A lot of how long a vehicle lasts willl depend on how hard you drive a car. If you take it easy on a vehicle, it lasts longer.

get a v6 Journey if you are looking, it's basically the same as the Grand Caravan that is a cockroach (IE they run around everywhere and are nearly indestructible). I just had to replace the from the factory battery in my mothers '16 GC for her last month finally, otherwise hasn't needed anything but basic maintenance so far.

I will say your best bet with Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/RAM post 2014 are models that are outside the other Stellantis/Fiat models like a RAM truck or a Jeep Wrangler or from the second half of the 2010s and are holdover models/designs from Daimler Chrysler. But the rebadged models or smaller vehicles that use a lot of Stellantis powertrain components have had a lot of issues.

I tend not to trade or buy vehicles very often, so reliability and dependability are very important to me. I drive a Toyota Tacoma, my wife a four Runner, and my two daughters a Corolla and a RAV4. Both of my daughters have had good luck with theirs. The Corolla is a 2014 and my daughter is still driving up even after graduating from college. It’s got over 200,000 miles on it and it’s been an awesome vehicle. Same with all the other Toyotas that we’ve owned. My son has a crew cab Ford F150 with low miles and a Subaru STI. The STI is really fun but isn’t as bullet proof as the other Subaru foresters and legacy that we have owned. The F150 has been pretty reliable too. Good luck car shopping as finding a dependable vehicle under $10,000 is challenging.

Grand Caravans are some of the most dependable vehicles I’ve ever been around.

I have an 18 ram 1500 that I love. We’ve owned a Chrysler Pacifica for about 10 yrs with very little issues.

We also have a rav4 and a Honda fit. Rav 4 has been good but trying to find a used, cheap rav4 or crv will be a challenge.

You don't like the RAV, I know a couple of people that have them and love their vehicle. We have a Grand Highland Hybrid and love it. Best vehicle we have ever owned.
We have a midline one. Compared to other vehicles we have had, the ride is not as good and it just seems not as nice first of all. We have had more repairs than other vehicles also. It has 110k on it now and bought it around 50k.

Strangest thing that happened to it is we had to get a new main wiring harass in it. Apparently their electrical wires coating is made of soybeans and squirrels like that stuff. Wife was at school and was parked by a grassy “park” area and squirrels started eating the wires coating

I drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee for 6 or 7 years. Traded in at 100k miles and did nothing but tires and battery.

Currently drive a 2022 Ram going to be 4 years in January with 48k miles. Nothing but tires.

Bought a new Pacifica in 2017; only have done tires, batteries and DTD light bulbs.

Those ratings usually treat a broken plastic cup holder the same as a bad transmission. I'd prefer powertrane only ratings.

Off the OT a bit but the stuff people find to struggle with in reviews for various products is amazing.

When looking through them for a Honda CR-V one complaint was a weak/quiet horn. I suppose it's quieter but how often are these people honking to need a louder one?

That’s what I do too. The reviews of the Journey is “well not as nice or tech forward as other models.” Ok, but I just want a safe reliable car. I am. It looking for hands free driving or heated steering wheel.
