Its why I'm ready for the "possibility" of what Anthony Brown could provide us because when you watch this game and the play-calling from our OC, there are going to be plays that you will clench up when you see how wide-open someone was and it will come down to how often our QB can hit that throw.

I tend to see your Offense getting off to a hot start before our defense locks up more, so for me, its about how consistently in the 2nd half our Offense can move the chains. We only got off to a hot-start against USC because of turnovers leading to a short field. I'd rather trade great field position from our ST all game long than poor field position all game with 1 return TD if I could choose.

Some of us old-timers get flashbacks when we think about backup QBs. One of the worst I remember (not too long ago) was knocking out the Missouri QB (Brad Smith?) and assuming that would give us a better chance to win)... then here came Chase Daniel and had a 155 QB rating (looked it up) to beat us soundly. I still call it getting "Chase Danieled".

What has kept Brown from getting more time so far this season?

I wouldn't expect the ISU offense to get off to a hot start. Our average points by quarter are:
1st 4.6
2nd 11.2
3rd 8.5
4th 8.5

90% of the time, when other teams fans bring up Nike/Phil Knight, it's to claim that we pay players to come to the school. Hence why some of us get testy about it.

That would get old real fast.

Speaking of good players - how long after Oregon started being good (after apparently a fairly long 'not real good' stretch) did it take to start getting 4* players on a frequent basis - like at least a half dozen per year?

I'm really hoping we start seeing that. We had a few false starts over the years where we thought we were clawing out of 'terrible land', but this feels different. For me the difference is now having legitimate D1 (if not P5) depth at every position. Maybe it's continuing to put some skill guys in the NFL (now with Kolar and Hall on their way there), or winning the marquis games (like beating a great brand like Oregon in a Fiesta bowl perhaps... Hmmm..)..

What punishes us the most due to scheme is mobile and accurate QBs. If your QBs are statues, we'll eat. If they are mobile but can't throw on the run or see the open man when it's there, you'll have a hard time maintaining drives. We have a tendency to break down pockets fairly often, but when QBs can get out, spot the opening and hit it accurately, those are the guys we struggle with. If they don't move well enough or can't deliver a good ball in those scenarios, we sit pretty -- given enough time, someone will be open momentarily, but we generally do a good job shifting the defense towards the QB -- which tends to close openings with indecisive throwers as they run out of field to go to.

FWIW, we've beaten up pretty good on fresh/inexperienced QBs not named Rattler.

I'm glad we don't have to play against Brock Purdy.

I mean if yall can establish an early lead, by all means slowing down the pace and grinding the clock through sustained drives to wear our defense out will be a great strategy. I'm obviously not confident about our current QB leading us to that sustained success all game to think that our odds increase as the scoring does. If its close late, we have guys who can tilt a game with a big play or two and several that have yet to have that "break-out" game as we saw against USC.
If we establish an early lead, you are screwed. OU both games, OU got up 17 or so. We let your game plan play out, adjust and are usually behind before we look like a P5 team. If we jump on you from start a la wvu and ksu, you're in for a long day.

Cambells motive against good teams to keep the game within reach to win in second half

Duck lifer here...Well If that is the case I’d love to get ISU for a home and home in the near future because I do like to eat and drink. Looking forward to the game next week, Happy Holidays ISU fans and of course...Go Ducks!
That would be amazing!!!

If THIS is why I got told by Yoda to EABOD...screw THAT noise.
I was being sincere. I'm technically a Cougar by education (attended Wazzu), but I'm a Cyclone by choice (and 33 years of receiving paychecks from them). I was around when Pre was running, and he WAS amazing. I didn't really follow football then; I'm more of a basketball fan. My intent was not to make noise about Nike...just to share a personal memory of OU.

Just my gut feeling. I'm expecting a defensive slug-fest. If I were a betting man, I'd bet the under.

Like 24-21 or 7-6??? The Oregon/Michigan State Redbox Bowl is the only game Oregon has won that I refuse watch a 2nd time.
