One team has made two national title games in the last decade while the others program height in the spread offense era is a Orange bowl win . Anyone else here think Iowa State is a little like Washington State?

Again, since Pat White and Steve Slaton where there, what the F has WVU done to warrant comparison to us? All of their recent accomplishments are over a decade old.I just compared them. Of course there is more weight to what's happened recently, but because somehow an imaginary cutoff of 2000 and nothing before counts is just dumb. So in that case Oregon would be on par historically with Notre Dame? I hate the Irish, but that's a joke.
And since 2000 West Virginia still won 10 or more games 5 times, including a run with three straight 11-win seasons from 2005-2007. In the last 15 years they have won a Sugar, Fiesta and Orange Bowl.
Damn you Duck fans have me talking somewhat nicely about WVU. Excuse while I go throw up a bit.
Back to the real fun though, I have always had a soft spot for Oregon. Wanted you guys to win both of those National Championship Games. Especially against Cam Newton and our former dbag of a coach.
What are yall gonna do when your coach leaves for a better school?
Do you want to talk football at all or do you just want to talk smack about us? If its the former cool, if all you want to do is throw pot-shots at those of us who came over then you're leaving me with a fine opinion of most texans I already know.
If Campbell ends up at Bama and pulls a Mike Price/James Harden then we can have this discussionOne team has made two national title games in the last decade while the others program height in the spread offense era is a Orange bowl win . No, I've consistently asked you questions about your team in response, such as is this your best season ever? What is your marquee bowl win?Listen snowflake, I simply made a comparison ON MY TEAM'S MESSAGE BOARD that I feel like Oregon's team is similar to WVU's. You got all butt-hurt and started talking shlt trying to compare your team to actual elite teams while attempting to belittle ISU. Now all you've got is "what are yall gonna do when your coach leaves" talk. You're not bright, and you're not good at shlt-talking. Campbell isn't going anywhere. (BTW, you can attempt to talk shlt about Texans all you want, and you'd mostly be correct. Except for no state income tax there's not a whole lot about this state that's redeeming.)
" When we drop our 250-260 pound edge players, they can run with any TE. " <--- I don't like the sound of that. They're good football players. I didn't want that to go the wrong way.
The inside linebackers ran sub 4.2 shuttles coming out of high school. The nickel back can touch his ankles standing up. When we drop our 250-260 pound edge players, they can run with any TE.
The team faces DJ Johnson and Spencer Webb in practice every day. OSU and UW regularly feature three TEs. The PAC 12 North features the TE heavily.
I am much more concerned about assignment, tackling and fitting the run.
I would say you nailed it. (side note - the Oregon fans visiting here have been great. That makes the boards much more fun during run ups to games like this - with new opponents.)Now that we've entered Phase II (analytics) of the pregame banter cycle I decided to watch what ISU clips are available on YT, drove by a Holiday Inn, and came away with these impressions:
1. Purdy. The game will go as Purdy goes and I don't mean just on offense. When Purdy is on he's very good. Spins a great ball, makes good decisions, and frequently extends a play with his arm or legs. If the ISU offense can grind out long drives and score in the red zone Oregon could be in for a long day. Yeah, I know, file this under "no shite sherlock". What I don't see though is an offense that is good enough across the board to win with a QB who is just managing the game by relying on the talent around him. I really like your backs, #11 (Allen) is a stud and runs like a wide out, but Purdy having a good game is key. Who is your back up QB and how much faith do you have in him?
2. Pressure. I see the offense break down pretty quickly when there's pressure and that's where Purdy often excels; it's also where plays go horribly wrong. If Oregon plays mostly a three man front and zone coverage I can see Purdy absolutely slicing and dicing through the Oregon defense. Purdy also needs to be spied because he's such a good runner. Which leads to the rub - If Oregon puts four hands down at the line and spies Purdy with a LB or nickle then your TEs run wild down the seams or on shallow crosses. Personally, I prefer the latter and take our chances.
3. Defense. I see a lot of three man fronts with very athletic "max effort" (as another poster put it) guys who can get to the QB. The base looks like a 3-3-5, perhaps an ISU fan could chime in with some additional insight. The safeties are fast and hit hard, one guy in particular. Saw a lot of soft zone coverage and not overwhelmed by the corner play. On the whole, though, there's speed on defense, they play smart, and tackle well.
4. Run Defense. Saw a lot of six guys in the box and a high safety. I know ISU has pride in their run defense but I think even Oregon's relatively inexperienced OL can make hay with that.
Anyhoo, just the ramblings of a mostly sober interet rando with a keyboard.
Ps. I have all sorts of critiques about Oregon as well so don't take the foregoing as chest thumping.
No, I've consistently asked you questions about your team in response, such as is this your best season ever? What is your marquee bowl win?
At this point all you seem capable of doing is casting aspersions at me when I haven't directed any pejoratives at you. If that's all you're going to continue with then "have a nice day, if you want."
Interesting perspective, I hadn't looked at that as closely as you did. It still seemed like the Big-12 bent over backwards to keep UT in the conference.
How can you compareListen snowflake, I simply made a comparison ON MY TEAM'S MESSAGE BOARD that I feel like Oregon's team is similar to WVU's. First of all Phil Knight is not a benefactor he is a former athlete for the university of course he is going to financially support the athletic department he played for. Also we get players by having better recruiters these days as even when we made two national titles our recruiting was in the 15-25 range compared to the top 10 classes we’ve signed in the last 3 years.Since it's quite easy to look up, and since it's been discussed by every single announcer on TV during our games, and since you likely already know the answer... Yes, this is Iowa State's best season and I'm incredibly proud of the team and happy for the fans who have continually packed 60,000 people into the stands even when we had back-to-back-back-to-back-to-... 2 to 3 win seasons.
As for bowl wins, we don't have any big marquee wins. We beat a higher ranked team in the Liberty bowl, got screwed on a wide-right call against Alabama in '01, won the Insight Bowl against Minnesota in '09. Beyond that there's only been two other bowl wins out of 15.
Iowa State had an AD who was abhorrent and simply didn't believe in investing into the athletics programs. Would love to have a benefactor like Nike to buy some players, but appreciate that we continue to attempt to do things the honorable way (a saying reserved for teams with poor history).
You won't have much luck trash talking Iowa State fans. We've suffered decades of bad football, and we all know it. We're happy to be where we are and statues will be built in Campbell's honor and probably placed adjacent to Jack Trice's (if you don't know who that is you should look it up).

For the very same reasons that I'd expect yall to not give AF about what happened in the last century is why we don't care that much. BTW, we're also tied for like 8th all time in NFL Hall of Famers and have one of the more extensive coaching trees in Football with people who have been through Eugene in their coaching career.
There are currently 6 teams that have won a CFP game and we're one of them. Incidentally, those 6 teams also finished in the top 6 in recruiting. While we've had only 1 Heisman winner, we've also sent plenty of others to the stage. In this century we also have one of the better winning percentages of all P5 teams.
We used to just be a Track School. Now we have one of the best Athletic Departments in the entire nation and Baseball is the only program I can think of that isn't any good/nationally ranked.
Sorry one of y’all comparing a top 10-15 job in college football to WVU is a bridge too farAnd we were all getting along so well...

I don't think that poster meant it to be taken as an insult, but I would agree Oregon is above West Virginia as a football program.Sorry one of y’all comparing a top 10-15 job in college football to WVU is a bridge too far
You called NIKE the benefactor. Sorry one of Oregon athletes was genius enough to make billions after his athletic career at the university of Oregon was done.
