I'm a little nervous about our offensive tackles' abilities to handle Kayvon Thibodeaux.

TE's chipping edge rushers is something we do well. It's the stunting and interior pressure that cause us problems (most teams struggle with this). How you beat that is a quick passing game and downhill blocking.

Get Breece going on downhill runs and they have to stop stunting in order to cover their gap. Also leaves opportunities for Brock to RPO to quick passes on the edge. Then it's just up to our giant WR's and TE's to block

A little personal insight, in 2010 when the PAC-10 came raiding the Big-12 conference, I was in Kansas visiting KU (a client), then on to Wichita to meet another client and finally on south to visit Texas A&M another client when all of the BIG-12 was trying to figure out what they were going to do. The PAC-10 wanted TX and A&M as well as Colorado and Oklahoma to come on board creating the PAC-16 Super Conference, obviously, this didn't happen.

The Big-12 gave TX everything they wanted (my opinion), TX TV network, etc. This really crippled the Big-12 in my opinion, it made it very difficult for the rest of the conference to compete with the UT money. Then Nebraska left and A&M left. Very tough times for the conference.

It was a very interesting time. When I was talking with the people at A&M they told me that the academic side wanted to join the PAC-10 (16) and the football program wanted to join the SEC. We all know how that came out.

Where I'm heading here is it appears that universities like ISU have stepped up and the conference is healthy with success from Baylor, TX, Ok, WV and OSU in various sports. Your conference has survived and become stronger. Congrats.

Oregon only won the time of possession stat in 1 game this year. Their last game against USC. In their losses, they got dominated in time of possession.

Run the ball and we win

They move Thibodeaux all over to get him one on one matches. He got inside pressure on Wisconsin, for instance.

Brandon Dorlus is quick twitch on the interior and can cause problems.

Oregon saw some really good progression from Jamal Hill and Brian Bennett in the secondary towards the end of the season. These two will be instrumental in stymying the quick passing, fitting the run and covering TEs.

From ESPN's Bowl Season article out today:

Key player: DE Kayvon Thibodeaux. If this had been a normal season, Thibodeaux would have been a preseason All-American. But even in six games, he made his presence felt. That was evident in the Pac-12 championship game against USC, in which he was named the MVP with five tackles and a sack. Thibodeaux, who leads the team with 7.5 tackles for loss and three sacks, is a difference-maker wherever he lines up, and Iowa State will have to account for him.
In less than twice as many games, Iowa State has two players with more than twice as many sacks.

Bailey has 7 sacks in 11 games (0.63 sacks per game)
McDonald has 9.5 sacks in 11 games (0.86 sacks per game)

Thibodeaux has 3 sacks in 6 games (0.5 sacks per game)

If you guys are still interested, you can have Baylor if you would like.

I am sure your DL is good.

**** Baylor.

Greetings, another Duck fan here. Hoping to learn more about ISU ahead of the Fiesta and share what little I could glean from Oregon’s six game season.

First of all, congrats on your NY6 bowl invite. For some reason I though we were going to draw Oklahoma and was pleasantly surprised to learn we get a first time tilt with a very good Cyclones team. The last time the Sooners played at Autzen some legitimate reffing shenanigans occurred on an onside kick and it would not have been fun hearing from an already arrogant fan base rub that in our digital faces for two weeks.

I know very little about ISU and only watched parts of two games. My first impression, though, is that Purdy spins a very nice football. I’ve much more to learn about your formations and concepts.

As far as the Ducks I chalk up the inconsistent performances mostly to youth and a lack of reps. In a normal season a team get three cupcakes (tho we did have Ohio State on the OOC docket this year) to tune up before conference play. Out of the gate expectations were high and Oregon played pretty well. Shough, the new QB, played very well and then regressed significantly in the last three games.

The losses against Cal and Oregon State IMO can largely be attributed to the run defense being pooh. Oregon lost a four year starter at Mike who is replaced by a very highly touted, but nickel bright true freshman. Other teams regularly ran RPOs, our Mike would bite on the run, and then throw shallow crosses across the middle. I’m not dogging our freshman Mike for the losses but on the whole the front seven played pretty mediocre until the USC game. Not to say there weren’t lots of excellent individual performances, but as a group, the defense - especially the D line - weren’t in top form for most of the very short season.

On the offensive side, I’ve seen others refer to Oregon as a pistol offense. Not to disagree, but I would characterize them more as a pro set, pass first, read option. The Ducks will often line up three or four wides and the tendency is to look for the pass first if it’s there. The run game has also improved as the all new offensive line has improved. Oregon has three fast quality running backs.

I did not even know we have a QB grad transfer from BC (Anthony Brown) until the USC game. Given his performance I think your defensive staff will be spending some time trying to plan for packages he may run in the Fiesta.

For those of you wants to know more about Oregon’s roster a good resource is Chile Duck’s Depth Chart:

On Matt Campbell and playing him in the 2010 Little Caesar’s Bowl:

“That was a classic. I remember it was the first bowl game in the history of FIU. Little Caesar’s Bowl — hot and ready — that was the chants going on all the time. Man, I ate more pizza - I felt like a Ninja Turtle by the end of the week. It was a very competitive game. We had so much respect for them.

When you fast forward and you look at coach Campbell and his career, that’s a bunch of things that really stand out. The deeper dive you take into it the more respect you have for the level of culture and the standards that they are upheld to with their program and the constant commitment to physicality, execution and a lot of the principles that we implement in our program as well.

Ok pants, it was poorly worded but I just really want this game to happen. Chill out.

One of the better pregame banter traditions with Ducks fans is the opposing team bringing duck memes. We think we've seen it all but every once in a while someone goes big and we love it.

Keep 'em coming.

Disappointing that we won't have the opportunity to meet your fan base in Arizona. Hopefully we will have the chance for our teams to meet again. Good luck, Ducks!
