This Saturday night I’ll be bringing my wife to her first game in Hilton (and my first game since probably 1995) and I need some help choosing a good place to eat after the game. I’m not interested in BBQ, or chain restaurants. My short list of choices right now are: Provisions Lot F, Aunt Maude’s, The Cafe, Tosca or Great Plains.

Any other thoughts/suggestions out there would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just in case you are interested in the "specials" for Ames Restaurant Week...

I would suggest Dublin Bay. Keep in mind that most places will be pretty busy. Aunt Maude's won't take reservations for groups less than 4

Has your wife ever been to Great Plains? Does she like pizza? Aunt Maude's or Great Plains are my suggestions.

Get there early. The last time I was in Ames we got there like an hour and 30 before tip and ended up at Perfect Games because nobody could seat us in time. It was packed everywhere.

I rotate at going to Maudes, Cafe and Provisions. Just seems like the food at Maudes has slipped a little in the past year IMHO. Cafe, Provisions and Maudes in that order. All 3 exceptional service and atmosphere.

This is a great list of almost everything mentioned here that links to all of the restaurants websites so you can check out menus and pictures.

I think all three are owned by the same people right?

I’ve been wanting to try the new place that replaced Mullets. Haven’t been there yet so can’t recommend it but it’s where I would head.

Wallaby’s. Is an option also. See big George.
