Des Moines Apartments

Really anywhere in DM. Working for Wells Fargo on Bell & Fleur but I'm only a temp so its not certain that I will be there long term.

You could ride your bike from downtown to that office a good portion via bike trail if that matters at all to you. Probably take you 15 or 20 minutes.

The Des Moines Building is a highrise that is currently being converted from office to apartments/lofts. Looks like it will be open starting Sept 1:

This would be pretty cool. We're shooting for something less than $1000 a month so this is right on that line. Looking like we may need to give a little bit on our max price if we want a place downtown/West Glen.

Bell building sucks ... Live downtown and live it up on that temp salary. Day 1 of temp job start looking at internal job board and find a perm job. Once u get perm job set up 401k so that u get 6% company match. Do 1 year in perm job then start looking for new job and demand 10% pay raise but wait till you get 2% merit increase in March. Repeat till you are satisfied with your career.

Thanks for the advice. Bell hasn't been too bad for me. Could be better but its a start.

I know people in WDSM who live in Wellington, Turtle Creek, and the Fountains. I'm pretty sure they all pay under 1000 for a 2 BR.

I lived in Normandy Terrace for 6 months or so. I paid I think 610-670 for a 2 BR. Wasn't a bad place at all.

You're about a 10'dollar cab ride from the West Glen area with any of the first apartments.

I live downtown, but I cannot recommend the place I am living because of Jesus the cashew stealing mexican.

God, do I miss DSM.

Reason we are in Dallas is the wife took her dream job down here, so obviously I followed. We live in the "hip" area here in a 1 bed, 850 sq foot apartment for much higher than what people are talking for a 2 bedroom.

I hope to be back some day!!

To the OP, live downtown, enjoy life while you can. Before kids and other obligations, just have fun.

I lived in Des Moines for a year after college and lived in 333 E. Grand. This is back in 2009 but for a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom the apt ran for $1000 total. It was a great place in an awesome location and was an amazing value! I had no regrets on renting from there.

I've lived here for 2 years and it's been a great experience. They are also constructing a new building next door to 333 E Grand which will be open in the fall.

I took a tour of the Des Moines Building on Sunday and may be going that route soon simply because the amenities (washer and dryer in unit, rooftop patio, etc).

If you're considering DT at all, start shopping around now. I believe occupancy is around 95% right now.

The lone downfall to DT for me has been the lack of a conveniently located grocery store, which will be changing here in the next several months.

The question begging to be asked, do you eat the heck outta Zombie Burger seeing it is just across the street?

Full disclosure, I used to work for this company, but I live at a BH Management property. They are competitively priced. I think we currently pay $785 for our 2 bedroom in the Southwestern Hills neighborhood (Weston Park). They have 5 or so properties in Des Moines.

Otherwise, I know a lot of (younger) people that live or have lived Sun Prairie. Downtown is another good choice for a hipper crowd, as is West Glen in WDM.

I'll concur with this. We live at Boulder Ridge. Its affordable, right next to 235 and close to everything we need.

I'm in the same situation as the OP here. Trying to find a place near downtown DSM. It seems like a lot of places are pretty full though, so I might just look at Ankeny where I work.
