DEPTH CHART IS OUT!

I think it's because it's week 0. Like 10 teams in all of college football play.

And, if ISU has another nice season despite yardage, who cares?
I've gotten like 5 dumbs on my initial post saying it was concerning that no one separated themselves in the room. I hope I am wrong, and we have some studs, but I don't think that is the case.

The fact that not a single starter in the WR room is determined by week 0 is how I know.

Unless you have been at several practices (have you?) you literally do not know.

Take a look around the league. 1,000 yards receiving isn't some insane number. Just because Iowa State history is historically bad from a WR standpoint doesn't make this a huge number. The fact that no one is the DOG in this room is concerning. My initial statement was this was similar to the Packers WR room. Plenty of guys who can contribute, but not a single massive game changer go to guy. The fact that we lost 2 go to guys when the going gets tough does not bode well. Hoping Brahmer has a huge year and can be that guy, because it looks like the WR room will not have that guy.
What?

Did you watch a game with all these 4 already? And if so, can you tell us how so we can watch it?

In all seriousness, this is an absolutely outlandish thing to say. This team hasn't even played a game yet. 0 snaps, 0 passes even attempted. How can any of us know? Currently I'm tied for first in total receiving yards with everyone else in the WR room.

FWIW, a large percentage of CF'ers on here would not have predicted multiple 1k yard receivers last year

How does a depth chart in week 0 determine anything?

How can there be 'concerns' before a season starts?

Can we get to like October to at least let trends develop a bit?

lol actually… you think the players and coaches don’t care…

That argument holds about as much water as people saying Matt Campbell doesn’t really care about CyHawk.

Foolishness.
I assure you the coaches communicate playing time, formation personnel, etc. through player meetings and other avenues.

Lol if you think the players are finding out or get meaningful intel about about their depth chart status from an obligatory two deep that is released for media and fans.

yes they clearly dont talk about it. In fact, i have it rumored from a reliable source that certain members of the media tell these players where they are at on the 2 deep

*this is 100% sarcasm, but based on reactions to other things today, this disclaimer feels 100% necessary*

friend, if you are using a matt campbell depth chart to tell you anything, i am questioning your life choices
go take a peak at the last couple of years depth charts week 1. Higgins nor Noel nor Xavier nor Butler nor Lazard ever had an OR next to their name before a breakout season. They defined their role in the offense before ever playing a real snap. Maybe Overby or Eskildsen are just that good and I am completely wrong. But from my reading between the lines, we don't have that level of talent in the room this year.

1755535611360.png2024 for reference. Dude was wrong. Which is why he deleted his posts.

I was more surprised than Daniel Jackson is a clear second stringer WR than I was that Sowell and Townsend have ORs by their name. Expected Jackson to have a type of Darian Porter breakout year

in the last couple of years, how many times has ISU opened college football and played a week 0 game against a conference opponent where there's 0 tape on the new WR transfers?

You seem to have made a lot of definitive determinations despite having zero information outside of one depth chart, which Matt Campbell has proven to show depth charts are absolutely useless for him team.

And yeah, 1,000 yards is kind of a big deal. ISU or not. There were only 16 P4 players with 1,000 yards last season and we had TWO! So of the other 66 P4 schools, they had 14 receivers hit 1,000 yards. So approx 80% of teams at the P4 level didnt have a 1,000 yard received. Think some of those teams were just fine.

Garrett Rutledge is the only name on the depth chart I haven't heard anyone talk about all off season. I think it's fair to say we have really solid depth in most positions. It'll come down to what is our ceiling? Do we have guys that can match other teams top end guys?
CMC talked about Rutledge at length during one of his last few press conferences. I've heard Clanton talk about him too.

Sama has had like 3 good games as a Cyclone, and the crazy snow globe game at KSU.

In all fairness, same with Hansen. But i'm not sure why people anoint Sama as the next Troy Davis or Breece Hall.

I think its the open field speed and moves - exaggerated, fairly or unfairly, by Snowmageddon. You can't teach that.

I think on one of the W&B pods, they said something about him struggling with a different blocking scheme last year? If so, that would make some sense wrt having trouble getting thru that first level. It would be great if last year was just a soph slump, scheme adjustment thing, and he ends up being a Dude.

Even if you take the snowmageddon out of the equation, he's had 10/25 games where hes averaged 5 yards per carry or more, and 15/25 games where hes averaged 4 yards per carry or higher.
This. Plus, he led the team in rushing against KSU last season and averaged 5.4 yarks per carry. Sama may not be our best back, but he is a capable back that hopefully continues to improve.

Even if you are reading between the lines, I dont feel like you can judge that yet, just based off one week 0 depth chart when nobody has played a snap

That's not some bold statement. You mean we lost two day two NFL draft picks from the WR room and we're not going to immediately replace them with someone new having a top 10 receiving season in school history? Oooh what a shocker that'd be :jimlad:

Don't need to have a Higgins/Noel in order to have a deep WR room and productive passing game.

I didn't realize they ended up 11 yards apart - what a great season for both of them. It's super fun seeing #2, #3 and #4 on that list in the same NFL huddle.
