DEPTH CHART IS OUT!

Even if you are reading between the lines, I dont feel like you can judge that yet, just based off one week 0 depth chart when nobody has played a snap
I only said that is was concerning, and people seem to be enraged by that fact. I am sharing my personal thoughts. I hope I am wrong. Go Clones

I dont think anyone is particularly enraged. Just wanting to debate why those are your personal thoughts. Either way, Go Clones

I have my concerns about replacing them as well. I have shared those in another thread but it’s not that you have concerns or doubt it’s how you got to that reasoning and how you are absolutely sure based on a week 0 depth chart using the word OR.

I mean is there any other way to debate this fact a full week before they play a snap? Guess I was hoping that someone impressed coaches enough to have locked up one of the spots over anyone else. Hoping at least one of Sowell, Overby, or Townsend can be a X factor for this team. (Certainly won't live up to the seasons Higgins & Noel just had).

Everybody clowning this. None of the guys on the roster will top 1,000 yards for the season which both Noel and Higgins eclipsed in 2024.
I don’t think you understand how rare it is for ISU to have 1 1,000 yard receiver let alone 2. If we have 3-4 guys all get around 500-700 that’s a really good group of receivers.

My my how two little letters on a Week Zero depth chart can cause quite a stir!

Iowa State is replacing two Elite WR’s.

Everyone in the building knows what they have. It’s more of a status symbol to not have an OR than “we don’t know who the F to pick, so let’s put OR”.

It’s also attributed to depth, certain packages, and competition.

The WR room will be just fine (as with any group, health matters). Mouser has a year under his belt, Rocco has a ton of experience, our OL should be as good but probably better, we have an experienced RB position, and TE’s galore.

Probably way too optimistic for this page though.

Take a look around the league. 1,000 yards receiving isn't some insane number. Just because Iowa State history is historically bad from a WR standpoint doesn't make this a huge number. The fact that no one is the DOG in this room is concerning. My initial statement was this was similar to the Packers WR room. Plenty of guys who can contribute, but not a single massive game changer go to guy. The fact that we lost 2 go to guys when the going gets tough does not bode well. Hoping Brahmer has a huge year and can be that guy, because it looks like the WR room will not have that guy.
There were 7 1000-yard receivers in the Big 12 last season, 2 of them ours. 10/16 teams did not have a 1,000-yard receiver. Going back, 2023 there were 2 of them, 2022 3 of them and only 1 in 2021. Your baseline metric doesn't seem as ho-hum as you're making it out to be.

I think the only real “surprise” or interesting thing on there is the OR between Manske and Moberly. I know they are high on Manske, but I thought with him coming off injury that Moberly was clearly the backup right now.

Run defense was our biggest weakness last year. Look how many rush yards ISU gave up in the 3 losses.

TTU. Only 129 yards, but Tahj Brooks ran for 122 on 25 carries (4.9 avg).
KU. 237 yards.
Arizona State. 248 yards.

Plus Miami went for 308 yards.

I blame our LBs and scheme for most of our problems last season. But it would help if the new guys on the DL can help force the opposing RBs to go sideways.

Wow, you got me on that, I would have never guessed it was that close. Maybe it was just the productivity (esp TDs) and assuming him being dinged up a lot is what I remember.

Well, let's hope he is bulletproof this year!
To be fair, I think Hansen got a lot more snaps down the stretch. And he was the primary redzone guy so he got a lot of TDs. He also plays more on 3rd down, so their total snaps played is probably more skewed than the carry numbers show.

I just blame our LB. We had the same scheme we've always had, and we've always been a pretty good rush defense. When you're down to 3rd-4th string guys, I don't care what the scheme is, your run defense is going to suck.
