DEPTH CHART IS OUT!

I think another thing to think about is how useless these have been in the past. Last years depth chart was pretty much only useful as emergency toilet paper
Yup. While I'd argue this first draft will probably end up being a bit more accurate than years past, Campbell largely uses this as a propaganda piece to reward underclassmen for a strong camp and challenge upperclassmen to work harder. Grain of salt.

I respectfully disagree.
We paid Sowell and Townsend to be Cyclones. Having an "OR" and being listed second is a HUGE deal.

I think Overby and Eskildsen are just that good.
I respectfully disagree. They have been both dinged up a bit during fall camp. Nothing serious. The OR is not that big of a deal, both will start Saturday IMO

Biggest take aways. Not a single stand out in the WR room to earn a full time starter share of work is not a good thing. Kind of like the Packers, (yay we have depth but not a single GUY in the room). Freshman CB listed opposite Jontez is an interesting watch.
I think WRs will sort itself out after a few games. But probably a lot more guys playing this year than last. The fact they were trying out Jeremiah Cooper at CB tells you the coaches are a bit concerned at the other CB spot and don’t feel like they have a great solution there.

I would like to see Sama step up enough that we don't run the wheels off Hansen by game 6. Keep him fresh and healthy. He got worn down last year.

Or someone else emerges after a few games.

This might be the least I've followed preseason stuff but I thought some young RBs are around that have some potential.

Maybe we see something a few weeks in.

My biggest concern with this depth chart is that we will be getting flagged for too many men on every play.

Also, I was pretty surprised at the low number of starts for some of our established regulars.

Hansen had 151 carries last year. Sama had 124.

For comparison, Breece Hall had 186, 279 and 253 in his 3 seasons.

Montgomery had 109, 258, 257.

How did we run the wheels off Hansen? Him and Sama nearly split carries.

You got me there. Alphabetical fit all of the ones I checked, but didn't check all of them:rolleyes:
Here's the thing about the "ORs"

The order ABSOLUTELY matters. ISU has a team full of 105 alpha dogs. The staff knows that the public will read into whatever they put out, AND THE PLAYERS WILL EVEN MORE SO.

Every player will look at the top guy and say "That's the guy". The staff knows this.

To me, the "ORs" mean "But don't be surprised to see"

Anyone else surprised by the number of freshman on the depth chart? I counted 13. Seems high for a team with a lot of returning experience.
