No kidding. Couldn't he at the very least waited til the weekend? Get past the last big test of the non-con. A week before getting McKay eligible.

But in the end.... is it SO hard to not do stupid ****, if not outright illegal - for simply the 4-5 months of the season? Really?
Never been to college, eh bro?

He can bond out for $160, to a bail bond company. I would imagine the same DSM law firm that represents troubled Hawkeye athletes will represent BDJ, since they've represented every ISU athlete to get in trouble in the past 5-10 years and one of the partners in said firm is a former ISU football player.

I'm not sure that he's even charged with a violation of Iowa Code, but rather an Ames City ordinance. Iowa Code uses the term "Gatherings Where Controlled Substances Are Used" and not "Drug House".

Based on the three charges showing, I'm guessing that there was someone who wasn't BDJ smoking weed in his apartment. BDJ would have been likely charged with possession of marijuana and not "Drug House". Or at least in addition to it. He probably ran his mouth to the cop, so the cop arrested him on this BS charge, which he would have had probable cause for (since there likely was someone smoking weed in his house).

He shouldn't miss a minute of tomorrow night for it, IMO. I'd say the same if it was an Iowa player.

Ummm... The U of I is a lawyer school. So those DSM lawyers who supported U of I players probably won't give Iowa State players the same treatment. Especially right before the game vs. there beloved Hawks. We might be able to find an engineer to help find a way to escape from jail. But no lawyer with ties to the U of I will want to touch this. At least until after Friday night..

Ya, he just needs to enter a PLEA, not necessarily plead guilty. I'm not sure how experienced you are with getting arrested for minor offenses but I'm speaking from experience.

Well, I'm an attorney who practices in Story County and have practiced criminal law. He will have an initial appearance or arraignment first before ever pleading to anything. I guess you could have meant "plead not guilty," but this isn't a simple misdemeanor.

Who does BDJ live with?

If you believe some of the posters here, you would think this guy:

Looking at those charges, I'm betting he doesn't miss a game. There was a party at his place and someone else got busted with pot.

ChargeStatusDocket #Bond Amount
HOSTING A DRUG HOUSE MARIJUANAAWAITING TRIALCASH / SURETY BOND $1,000.00
NUISANCE PARTY REGULATIONSAWAITING TRIALCASH / SURETY BOND $300.00

I hope that's the case. If so, meh.

A bond that is less money is less serious than a bond that is more money?

Really hard hitting and informative stuff here, Bret. :jimlad:

A lot of hawk fans trolling this one. He probably just wanted to dumb it down for their benefit. Kind of a public service announcement.

Find me the actual code he was charged under. His bond is $1000. In the state of Iowa a $1000 bond is for a serious misdemeanor and an aggravated misdemeanor is a $2000 bond.

Yeah Im not 100% sure that is the code section he was charged under...I just saw a previous article on the charge that referenced that section. Sounds like Rob Gray talked to the Ames PD and its only a serious misdemeanor.

No. He will not plea today and, in my experience, the judge would strongly advise him against pleading to this charge and suggest he speak with an attorney first. I imagine the public defender will be appointed and then he will be free to seek his own counsel if he so chooses.

I would be a significant chunk of change that this is BDJ's lawyer:

He's a pretty good one too.

Even if he does play, I expect him to play a little out of control and end up sitting on the bench. Carver will attack him mercilessly.

yeah I was wondering if a city ordinance was being used rather than Iowa Code.

That would be my guess as well. Probably arrested by Ames city police on an Ames city ordinance. From previous court filings it seems like Ames PD has "met" Jones before and was aware of his residence.

The facts will come out and hopefully Bryce will learn a lesson from this experience if guilty or be exonerated before too much damage is done to his reputation. Ultimately, the "game of life" is more important than this game on any basketball game for Bryce. I hope for the best for him as an individual as he seems like a nice guy and good kid. We shall see.
