DEFENSE!!!

That's because the offense has sucked.

The defense gave up 24 points against ASU and Colorado, if our offense was competent those would be wins.

Scoring 19 points against ASU and 17 against Colorado is beyond pathetic.
But we scored 30 points against Cincinnati and 27 against BYU, that should have been enough to win either of those games. It's too easy blame the offense, when its 8th in the conference in scoring, the same place the defense is ranked.

The offense has not been as strong as many hoped and the defense has given up a lot of points, which we have seen in the past.

But here we sit at 6-4 after starting the year 5-0. We are 8th in the conference in total point allowed through 10 games, and the same place 8th on offense.
We have an one more game than all but one of the teams above us, so total is a weird way to judge. We are 6th in the conference through 10 games in points allowed per game, 5th if only counting Big 12 games, and that includes a pick 6 so we're actually maybe 3rd or 4th.

Also the offense is 12th in scoring per game through 10 games, where are you seeing 8th?

Iowa State is ranked 12th in scoring offense and 6th in scoring defense, among the Big 12.

You can’t use total points when 6 teams have played 10 games and 10 teams have only played 9 games.

Ive said the defense sucked in the first half against Cinci. And I am very confident that was because the defensive staff tried to overcompensate for 2 starting CBs being out. Once they simplified things for the 2nd half we held Cinci in check.

BYU was a pretty even game until the beginning of the 4th quarter when Rocco threw a pick 6.

The defense has given up 24 points or less in EVERY game except BYU (41 but 7 was a pick 6) and Cinci (38). That's pretty good in my book and enough to win games if the offense does their job.

Count me in as someone who firmly believes (and believes it is very obvious) that the offense this year has been one of the biggest letdowns in the CMC era. And oddly enough, it certainly feels like we have a really solid offensive line and a rock solid running game.

It evens out, I really doubt that come Sunday morning our offensive or defensives stats are going to drop or gain more than one spot in the rankings after everyone has played 10 games.

You want to put the record on the offense and the mistakes it has made. No one is saying the offense has been lighting it up, but the defense also has a share of the blame here along with special teams.
Neither offense or defense has been good enough game in and game out to put us in championship contention.

It's all going to even out even though the difference between the offensive total and offensive per game stats is 4 places.

Even when using total points, offense ranks 10th, and defense ranks 8th. There's one defense, that has played 10 games, ranked ahead of Iowa State: TTU.

The offensive problems are much more than Becht, but this is pretty telling when examining what is afflicting ISU in wins vs losses: 1763131743749.png
