Dear Students,

One year we had seats behind the visitor bench. IU and Bobby Knight came to town. We also received an education.

Edit: much of it was targeted at their German big man Uwe Blab. Maybe Bobby thought he was cuss words were the same in German.
Students used to chant “sit down Norm” at Norm Stewart. One Saturday a buddy and me chased down Billy Tubbs as he left Hilton. OK had blown a big lead after he pointed at the scoreboard at halftime. We yelled “point at us now, Billy.” He yelled back at us “I’ll point this right up your A$$!!” I thought he was gonna chase us down he was so mad!!

In the 80’s the student seating was assigned seats. You had four seat locations that rotated during the season. One court side, two mediocre locations, and one high in the balcony. No reason to camp out back then. You hoped you best sets were for the best games. I was 6 rows from the court for the Lafester game. :)
I had a friend in the wheel chair section. He and one other were always in that section top row of the lower bowl. The rest of our tickets were always random locations in the upper deck. I didn't know we got screwed out of occasional courtside seats.

That's what made the old big 8 great!

My wife and I were in the 7th row behind the basket at that game.

As an undergrad in the late 70’s we didn’t even go to men’s games because we sucked so bad. BUT we did camp out for concert tickets. In February, we camped for six days to get tickets for The Who at Hilton. Set up a big tent, tapped into university power for light and heat, had folks supply us with food and booze and other illicit substances. Those were the days. And the concert was amazing.
