Dear Students,

Cyclone Alley & football student section is a huge part of what makes ISU sports great. Loudest and best around.

My only complaint on students I've noticed recently is during Thanksgiving or Xmas/New Years breaks, if you aren't staying in Ames: SELL or even GIVE AWAY your tickets rather than basically burning them!

I'm sure a Cyclone fan somewhere will take it and put it to use. I used to love a good free ticket back in the day before I could afford season tickets.

I'm with your general idea, but burning tickets is a way of life.

Do you know why?
Over the years I think they tamped down a lot on things because of student safety. (I remember them moving the polar bear plunge inside to state gym because the school thought it was too cold which is funny to sell shirts that say freezing for a reason.)

They aren’t even allowed heaters anymore which were a lifesaver when I was camping out during the hoiberg/prohm years.

Iirc a few years back a tent caught on fire. No one was hurt but I doubt the university was happy.

Tents AND chairs had to be gone at 5 hrs before tonight's tip-off, too.

Back in the day (late 80s), a nonstudent couldn’t sit in the student section. I don’t think you could even get into Hilton with a student ticket without a student ID. Has that changed?

Will they trespass somebody that goes earlier? How do you stop someone from standing out there?

I thought the rule was 12:01am the day after the last event before the next one and since the women played last night it makes it 12:01 today.

In the 80’s the student seating was assigned seats. You had four seat locations that rotated during the season. One court side, two mediocre locations, and one high in the balcony. No reason to camp out back then. You hoped you best sets were for the best games. I was 6 rows from the court for the Lafester game. :)

Does that mean for the Kansas and Houston games, they cant get in line until midnight before the game? Both games have wrestling the night before.

I was there the same time. My best seats were arena circle, two rows behind our bench. I learned some new words from Johnny that year.

One year we had seats behind the visitor bench. IU and Bobby Knight came to town. We also received an education.

Edit: much of it was targeted at their German big man Uwe Blab. Maybe Bobby thought he was cuss words were the same in German.

Gonna give props for those that brought the Ice Fishing shacks. I have one and they do a nice job of staying warm.
