I actually have a degree from Drake. I should start watching.
Is it actually possible to watch somewhere? I wanted to today but couldn’t find it. Hard to be a bandwagon fan when games aren’t available

A loss to an 11 seed from a power 5 conference was terrible.

but a loss to 19-15 mid major was just an upset, and those things happen.

got it.

No, your right. I get your point. But my point is Fred also won against the P5, crushed a couple of them too. CSP, couldn't do it, and he had great talent.

Fair enough, but on the other side of the coin Prohm has never lost to a mid-major in the tournament, and Fred did. Guess which loss one coach gets absolutely murdered for and which loss gets more or less shrugged off?

Who the hell is shrugging off the UAB game? Now you are getting into fantasy land that you accuse everyone else of doing. I was as pissed as I've ever been after a loss. They were playing really well then turned into a complete dumpster fire against UAB. I was so upset I didn't even watch any other games that Thursday.

Maybe you are confusing that with people who think the season as a whole was successful.

Some of us start watching games in early November, not the 3rd week in March.

I don’t remember, did Kansas State lose that day?

Jeremy, you’re still really bad at this.

Not exactly sure.
There needs to be coaching changes. I have a feeling that it may be a complete assistant overall instead of Prohm due to Covid, if we can afford it, it would be best to start completely fresh.

At the same time, I think some people are overinflating Fred's time here. We had good teams, not great teams. People are forgetting that we were generally 3rd or 4th in the conference. We won a couple conference tourneys and made the sweet 16 twice. We didn't make the final four ever. Prohm had massive talent his first year, Fred had the same talent the year before. Kansas was still winning more times then not against us. Things need to be put a little better into perspective.

The last time Iowa State hired a coach from Drake was back in 1971, when they convinced Maury John to come to Ames. Bad program, but a brand new Hilton made it interesting. Unfortunately Maury died from cancer a few years later.

Dude, stop being ridiculous. Speaking of "fantasy land", you have specifically written that Ohio State was "the worst at-large team in the history of the tournament", which is completely absurd on the face of it. People were upset after the game, and I also couldn't watch any other games that Thursday, but people also got over that loss pretty quickly and started with the whole "It's March Madness, sh!t happens. It sucks, but time to move on..."

Compare that to how some posters, and yes, this includes you, still hold that Ohio State loss over Prohm's head like the 'effin Sword of Damocles. Personally, and I'm willing to acknowledge I may be wrong, but just on this site I don't remember nearly the level of anger and vitriol towards Fred for losing to a #14 mid-major team that I remember was directed towards CSP for losing to an #11 seed Big Ten team in the immediate aftermath of the games.

2015, '16, '17, and even '19 were all successful seasons for ISU basketball when judged against our own program history.

As for your last sentence, I have no idea what you're trying to get at. I don't know how old you are, but I'm 46. I grew up going to basketball games at Hilton as a kid. I've been to at least 4 different NCAA tournaments to watch ISU in person. I structure my winter weekend schedules around watching ISU basketball, even last season, and the only reason I'm not doing that this season is because I have to work on weekends due to my work schedule changing because of the pandemic. When you mention watching basketball starting in November, guess what? Me too.

I’m pretty sure we made the sweet 16 once.

On the podcast this morning Chris and Brent discussed briefly how it's not really realistic at this point for new assistant coaches to sign on with where the program is at this point, and I have to agree. We just need a new coach and staff, plain and simple.

As for Fred's time, I don't know if it's necessarily overinflated, but I also am not sure if it would be held up as this sort of "Golden Age" era of Iowa State basketball if it had occurred under someone who wasn't a favored son and hometown hero the way Fred was. It also helps add to his mythology that he led us out of the Dark Ages of basketball that were happening under Greg McDermott. I think those emotional ties tend to skew perspective.

Bingo.

Will it ever be seen as a failure that 2014-15 ISU wins the regular season conference title by a game if they don't flounder around at Tech and Kansas State or forget to defend Baylor in Hilton?

I think I've seen it thrown out here that ISU was a Top Ten program during that time. Teams occasionally cracking the top ten but usually in that 15-20 range are Top Ten?
