huge loss for kansas no doubt but in the long run probably good for them. he can go get head coaching experience somewhere else. If Self ever leaves for the NBA Danny can step in with experience.

Manning is huge in Kansas nation, but i don't think the bball program will blink an eye they are much bigger then an assistant coach. The real question is how this risk will work at Tulsa. Could be an absolute steal or a disaster, flip a coin.

I agree this will not affect KU in the slightest way. Self has these guys rolling and that isn't going to change because of DM.

Also, I don't see any reason why Self would leave KU. He could easily become a Coach K type guy if he stays there for 20 years. He's young, he's as good of a coach as there is in the country, and he's a a program where he'll always be able to recruit.

Self's on pace to become the winningest coach ever with everything he's got at KU, but coaches make seemingly strange employment decisions sometimes. E.g., Frank Martin to SC, Johnny Orr to ISU, Tubby Smith to Minnesota, Steve Alford to New Mexico, McDoormat to Creighton, Matt Painter almost coming to Missery, etc. There was even some serious talk about Self himself going to his alma mater (Okie State) after he won the championship in 2008. Nothing is a given.

McDermott to Creighton was all about getting back to his comfort zone....he felt the heat coming on his seat...Strange it was not

Surprising, I thought he'd have a shot at KSU or Illinois. Why go to Tulsa when there are so many better jobs still open.

The strange part in that hiring was Creighton offering him the job. Taking it was indeed a no brainer.

Why do you think it will be an extreme? Isn't Manning following a standard progression through the coaching ranks?

I doubt you can go to Kansas someday if you go to Kansas State.
