Cytown Update

Man we have more idiots in our crowd than I care to admit. Kind of sad, but comes with becoming a bigger institution and fan base.
Hop on any Ames facebook group and mention any new development in town. I mean anything, no matter how big or small and wait for the townies to scream their head off because whatever it is, it isn't exactly 100% the thing THEY want. It's just Ames for some reason.

I assure you it's not just Ames, the #1 hobby in America is complaining, I present every thread on CF as evidence.

I'm convinced 80% of them believe that the city of Ames picks and chooses what chain restaurants come rather than someone deciding to buy land and open a franchise.

Any town’s FB group attracts high activity from the bottom 1%. Followed closely by Twitter with the next 1%. Getting close to there with some folks on the free board of this site. Scary to think these ppl are likely voters…and explains where we are in America today.

Why can't Ames have an IKEA, a Trader Joe's, a surf shop, a Mall of America, and that old restaurant from the 70's I enjoyed?

But seriously, I do miss a lot of places that have closed since I've lived here. So I do get nostalgic and whiny from time to time.

Yes. Just mention Cy Town on there and see the dozen responses of "why is the university spending money on this instead of on xyz....."
Same people complained about TJ's big payday by saying "why can't the university use that on academics"

The year is 2026 and people still don't realize that athletics have a different budget than the rest of the university, and that's nation wide as well.

When I was at ISU it was the "new mall". People bitched about that thing even after it was clear it wasn't going to happen. Granted it was a bad idea, especially in hindsight of what has happened to malls in the last 20 years.

This is what happens when any new place is being built in the Ozarks. Everyone starts asking about stuff that has no bone in the game. "Where are they going to get employees" and all of that type of stupid stuff. Like who gives a rip, it's not your money, they can figure that out.

Trader Joe's will be in Ankeny before it's in Ames
