I would have close to zero faith in the city of Ames to get their project moving forward. I was always astonished at the lack of vision, forward thinking, and willing partnership towards ISU that the city of Ames seems to have.
I always remember this being compared to the packer’s Titletown district and not the l power and light district from the start. I also remember it being presented that the clinic was a main pillar to build around.
I will say I think providing consistent updates and keeping people informed has been handled poorly. It has allowed the negative group to jump in to point out how this is failing.

99% of University towns would love being University towns if it wasn't for that damn University being in town...
I believe part of the issue is people have the idea that restaurant X and Brewery Z and Retail Store Y will announce and build like they see when they do for a stand alone build. When Starbucks etc builds a stand alone build you see plans, you see permit approvals etc before the build starts, then when the build starts you see a sign out front that says future site of etc.
This is more like when you see a strip of commercial properties that can be leased by anyone. You see the plans and the building go up long before you hear what is going to be leasing the spaces. Then a place like Starbucks leases the available space and opens, in that case you dont hear about the future Starbucks until the building is build, and they lease a space and they start to build out the leased building for said Starbucks.
We know the general plan, they are planning to build buildings that are general retail type places, they will build a anchor spot for a specific restaurant, if one is signed on, or they will build a blank slate type place that can be finished off when someplace gets leased etc.
I would guess there are businesses that are tentative, but really until the buildings start going up, most businesses wont officially sign up, until they are closer to being able to actually open a location.
This is typical of all the mixed commercial places you see all over metro areas. I can think of several that have recently gone up, and once they were complete you see retail and restaurants start filling in the spaces.
This is the nature of a project like this, that has so many steps, and every step has to go before the Regents to get approved, then bid out etc. Then once those spaces get closer to being available you will start seeing businesses start filling in the available locations. A lot of commercial places do not want it released they are coming until everything is signed and it is closer to being ready. I know many towns that have said they have a future business coming but they are not allowed to share by said business, until things are finalized etc. This is very common with retail, I also know of several places that even announced they were coming and then backed out for one reason or another. I know of a Panera and a DQ that announced, had coming soon on their web site, even had site plans approved with the city in question, then a competitor build first in the immediate area or some other reason, and they backed out. So many of them dont want it told until everything is signed and they are ready to build out a leased location.

How the hell does Romantix still have a building on that lot? City administration must getting some “extra benefits” to keep it up.

I hope the downtown projects come to fruition. They will be real game-changers for downtown and Ames in general as more friendly to young professionals.
Expectations of a P&L setup were strictly creations of fan imaginations. That kind of thing happens way too often to our fanbase. I've always called it the tailgate effect. One guy at a tailgate says "Power and Light" and it spreads from one tailgate to the next until the loudest morons in the fanbase are stating it as fact.
I’ll be surprised if those empty lots on LW become anything more than cheap 3 story apartments with some room on the ground floor for payday loans and mattress stores.

Iowa State University unveiled its plans on Monday for a community destination spot called CYTown.

The college said CYTown is a similar concept to other projects around the country that have been developed near sports facilities.
Two recent examples are Titletown near historic Lambeau Field, home of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers, and Kansas City’s Power & Light District, which is located steps from the T-Mobile Center, the annual home of the Big 12 men’s and women’s basketball championships.
You are dead wrong. Look at what the AD was putting out just 3 years ago. This video is more recent than the one Pollard ran around to the neighborhoods selling. He was promising P&L district-like for years!
CyTown Announcement
I honestly am fascinated with some of our fans and their willingness to bend reality. Literally the most consistent talking point from all sides - including the administration - through this entire journey - is it's comparison to P&L and TitleTown. No one had to make up anything.
Fans: it was never going to be like power and light. People made that up.
