Cytown Update

You’re really mad about something you have no financial stake in.
Mad aint it. Tired of it? Yes. Get it done and lets move on to the new way of game day. Being misled and lied? to is tiring.

I had overseas guests with me at the Iowa game in 2023. At that time we talked about the plans for the new buildings and tailgate space. They were back for the iowa game this year 2025. Their comments "what? thats all that is done?"

How much longer will tailgates happen in and around a construction zone? Seems like a reasonable question.

This has always been a 10 year plan. It was announced in 2019 as being a 10 year plan. They have adjusted that here or there as time has went on, saying ahead of schedule, etc. As hoping for completion by end of 2027....which is still almost 2 years away, you can build a lot of buildings in 2 years, especially when most of the dirt work etc is done.

That being said If it is not done in the 10 year timeframe, I would probably get a little concerned depending on what is being done at that point. So if we get past 2029, with little or no progress, I would start asking questions.

That being said expecting construction to start in the middle of winter in Iowa, especially when they have a 2 year window to be finished by the end of 2027 is kind of ridiculous. The Regents just approved the construction of 6 more buildings in December.... 3, winter months ago.

Their parking spot probably got moved 100 feet to the east and it was just too much for them to handle.
At the onset of the plan, I disliked the idea. As family life will make it harded to do 12 hour game days, I am more excited for a place to go for a an hour or two ahead of the game and leave behind the traditional tailgate.

Frankly I am just excited to splurge on the $69 margarita from Jimmy Luas Cantina and Taco Casa. And being able to enjoy said margarita, while buying a vape pen or getting a haircut, as my wife gets at pedicure.

So you think by the start of football 2027 it will be near complete and generally operable for a game day? Essentially were a talking 6 high end apartment buildings with ground floor businesses and underground parking... that will be rather impressive in 18 months.

I am not expecting the hotel to be done, if ever. Lets just get the fence down and be able to move around the space, whatever it is.

If this were to fall through and only the McFarland clinic get build, how much would the AD be out? The parking lot desperately needed to be redone anyway.

If it fell through that would probably be it for Jamie though...
The clinic lease pays for everything that has been done. The AD is fine so far.

Simply this project isn’t costing the ISU AD any money. The money the AD spent on dirt work and infrastructure needed to be done regardless of whether this project was taken on. If come July they haven’t made any movement on anything else then people can start to get concerned but currently this has basically been a zero risk project for Iowa State.

Is that what I said?

Soooooooooooooo The Iowa Everywhere Casey's Center pod today was a good reminder....one year from right now state boys basketball will be in Hilton.
I had forgotten until seeing the piece that Iowa Boys HS Tournament was moving into Hilton next year.

Has it ever been published what revenue impact hosting games will have on Athletic Department revenue? I would think getting Cytown done quickly will be important to keep from a fan experience standpoint.
