Cytown Update

Is CyTown one of the rare projects where what is actually getting built versus the initial renderings end up being an upgrade?

The rendering is the top one. Are you saying the bottom one is better?
I agree. The top one is awesome. bottom one seems like just a bunch of buildings. The top one must have cost a crap load more than the bottom one
The top one looks way better
Yeah.

Is that bottom picture what is actually being made?

I was very excited when I saw the top renderings...

The bottom rendering is what is currently being prepped for. Could change again if needed, but close to the final site.

What is that rendering supposed to be of, doesn't look like the footprint even? Unless it's oriented some weird way that doesn't make sense. The clinic currently in construction isn't even included, for instance?

The top one has the buildings mainly along University Ave. I think JP and/or the developers wanted a corridor between JTS and Hilton.

If that bottom rending is what actually happens, this project was a complete flop, bust, and let down.
Way to early to say any of those things right now, they are starting to put up the first building, lets get the thing built and start making decision if it was a good idea once its all finished and up and running for a couple of season.

Not exactly in Cytowns footprint, but has anybody heard what will happen with the Alumni building west of Cytown now that it’s part of the foundation? Heard rumblings at the last home game that it might be torn down.

Why would they tear it down? Are they talking about the old alumni hall?

Oh, man. I really, really hope it changes.
I find some of you really difficult to understand. Cytown will be earth shattering for Iowa State and Ames if it gets built to plan and is successful.
I want CyTown to succeed and look great, I don't know too many on here actively rooting for it's failure. Just that the 2nd photo shared just looks so underwhelming compared to what was proposed.

I'd love to eat crow and hope it is beautiful and becomes the place to be in central Iowa (and not just on gamedays.)

It’s a pretty pretty valid concern if it’s the most recent rendering.

JP could have bikini-clad beauty queens handing out free sides of beef and (some) people would complain.

The plan being built has been the concept for at least three years. Here's a release from September 2022. Don't know the date for the other concept but the current design has been around for some time.

Many have already made up their minds against the project, it's been a common discussion at our tailgates this season. I have no clue if it will be worth it or not, but I am at least willing to give it a chance, before I say Yes or No.

Early designs looked worth it, most recent do not.
