PRESS RELEASE (2/28):

PHOTO GALLERY (2/28):

Release Highlights:
The project will begin with the D parking lots located on the east side along University Blvd., and continue into lots C5 and C6 on the south end near Jack Trice Stadium. All three parking lots are expected to be off-line until mid-August when they are scheduled to reopen ahead of the fall semester and the 2023 Cyclone football season. The first phase also encompasses lots A3, A4, B5 and B6, which will be completed in the second half of phase one.

As part of this process, more than 160,000 cubic yards of fill material will be brought on site to raise the building pads five feet above flood stage, which is two feet higher than the City of Ames requires by code.

When the parking lots re-open ahead of the 2023-24 academic year, in addition to the new surface and enhanced lighting systems for safety, patrons will notice the parking lots and stalls that will be configured at 90 degrees similar to the lots directly north of Hilton Coliseum, as opposed to the angle parking that has been in use since the Iowa State Center lots originally opened. In addition, 10-foot fire lanes will be embedded within each lot to create a safer environment for all users.

That's gotta be the most boring photo gallery I've ever seen lol

Super exciting though for what it means for the future!

Are people really mad about a mall? How many malls are closing or barely keeping open these days. Shopping Malls are dinosaurs.

Have you ever been in the Jordan Creek area on a weekend. Plenty of people there.

You are right, and it has all but shut down every other Mall in the Metro area, would what they were planning in Ames Compete with JC? Would it draw the crowds away from JC? Because that is what it would be competing with.

There is a much larger population base around Jordan Creek vs Ames. And I am not sure the DM area cities would abandon JC to drive up to Ames. But the draw of Cytown is there is constantly events happening right there.

The JC complex has a lot going on... would a Mall in Ames, be that large, draw that many other businesses to the area, and would it draw that much population vs the people that go to JC.

I havent seen too many success stories on Malls these days. Even the Mall of America has made headlines recently with struggles. And most stores are moving away from the mall model. With other successes coming in the form of huge outlet malls (which are not traditional malls). JC has basically became the shopping center for the entire DM area, with added entertainment etc.

But really I have no skin in the game in whether they built a Mall in Ames. I just have seen the trend over the last couple decades. I am much more interested in CyTown.

Adding CYTOWN will likely draw much more attention and events than without it. It remains to be seen on its impact. Time will tell. If ISU benefits on any level, it's a win.

I don’t see it as a “mall” per se, more like the District at KansasCity. Multiuse with events drawing people with shopping as an after thought.

My post was talking about a failed attempt to build a new mall in Ames several years ago, as talked about earlier in thread.

Not in reference to CyTown.

Sad recover there by Pete.

But it's kind of sad how sports media operates. During those 25ish minutes, did Pete call Jamie to talk about it? Probably not, he just used Jamie's Tweet, went to the website, and probably did a quick google search for some articles that showed construction starting.
