Cyhawk postgame thread

Anyone that thinks old free rents is going to walk away when he is under contract for 4 more years is crazy, and his buyout is $6 million per year left on his contract if fired without cause. It's going to be Penn State or FSU all over again, aging coach that the game has left behind but just can't give it up and is now chasing victories.
That should be easy in 2025!

Yahya Black was drafted this year. Mark Weisman went undrafted in 2015. This is evidence of systemic bias in their developmental program.

It is just that easy!

Indiana just got a berth

It’ll be dependent on the schedule. Like Indiana, there’s a good chance TV networks won’t have Iowa playing a lot of top brands

They should go after Pat Fitzgerald

Indiana might have been the last lower team in that conference to have a chance. Iowa doesn't have a roster right now to get there. They won't in the future either. Plus, if Indiana wanted to, they could out spend Iowa. But they have basketball to obsess over.

I think Iowa is probably to finish in the 7-5 to 9-3 category. Average Big 10 team. Gronowski may be wasted in their system, but he does have the ability to pick up yards with his feet, and can throw the ball better than his stats would indicate. They still need to find someone to throw it to though. Another boring AF Iowa team to watch.
9-3 is out of the question. They are not beating Penn State, Oregon, or USC on the road. Add in Wisconsin and Nebraska road games

Iowa Hok football sets the sport back 100 years with that style of play. If the refs had called that game properly, this game was a 2 score win for sure. We know holding happens on pretty much every play, but holy Hannah it was so obvious (and right in front of the ref's face) and they still let it slide.
They truly make teams play down to their level and that’s the only way they win games. The big ten west allowed them to play offensive terrorism football and win 9-10 games a year. Now they can’t do it and Kirk can’t catch up to the times

Sorry if this has already been micro-analyzed, but in re-watching the game for details, I stopped again on that muffed punt by ISU. Very simply, how can someone be blocked 'In to' the receiver when the block is towards the outside AND the blocker releases ahead of the block AND the receiver? The terminology of the ruling is therefore, inaccurate, or a total blunder by the refs. If the blocker can avoid the receiver, again, 'in front' of the defender, the defender too can certainly do that. The rule or the training for the refs needs to adopt clarity. Especially, where this type of clarity is shown. That is one of many potential tide turning calls/no-calls.
Agreed. He wasn’t even in the still shot! But refs make mistakes too, just glad we recovered and held them to a field goal.
Sure - it's probably both.

Fun fact - Gronowski has played 3 games (all losses) against FBS schools (all Power 5) here's his collective stats:

43-87 (49.4%) 434 yds (144.6/g) 2tds 2ints 9 sacks; 36 rushes for 75 yds and 1 TD

So I take it back, he may be lousy.
i never understood the love from Iowa for him. I mean there’s a reason why even mediocre FBS teams are expected to best good FCS teams. And it’s not like he wasn’t even moving into a situation with great receivers and offensive gurus. They prob would have been better off just using whoever and put that NIL money somewhere else. (Nothing against the guy seems like a really nice kid.)

Actually only 4-6, but those 4 wins are in the last 5 games against ranked teams. Prior to that, we had lost 9 in a row vs ranked opponents.

In reverse chronological order:
2025 season
W #17 KSU
2024 season
W #15 Miami
L #12 ASU
W #21 Iowa
2023 season
W #19 KSU
L #7 Texas
L #22 Kansas
2022 season
L #4 TCU
L #22 Texas
L #20 KSU

Here are all our games against (AP) ranked opponents in the Campbell era: https://stathead.com/tiny/vy70u

Level set here is that .500 means you’re about #12 or #13 in nation.

80-90% means you’re in top 5-10 territory.

I don't watch Hok football (nobody should be exposed to that style of play, ever)... but with as much holding their O-Line gets away with, I can see why they win a lot of those close boring AF games.

Look at Indiana schedule last year had a lot to do with it, they played and beat an average Michigan team, lost to Ohio State and played no one else the entire season,

I wouldn’t be shocked at that. I also wouldn’t be shocked to see them finish 5-7 or something. Their schedule is not favorable.
If Iowa goes 5-7 this season, Kirk’s all-time win percentage would be 59.25%. That would make him ineligible for the college football hall of fame being under 59.5%.

If they go 6-6 and lose a bowl game I believe he would also but under the 59.5% threshold.

Iowa fans/admins have been telling us that our football program is bankrupt and on the brink of death for literally its entire existence. It's a fantasy. In their defense, realignment almost got the job done. But the fan/donor support in the Big 12 is much stronger than the rest of the country realizes, and ISU is one of the most underrated programs in that regard (fan support anyway). If you asked national media members how big our stadium is, I'm guessing most would say 40-45k. And national fans probably think 30k. A lot of ignorance out there about this part of the country and its commitment to winning football.

Didn't they just change that to get Leach in?

On this crucial play, all five of the Iowa lineman had the opportunity to turn and watch their QB get taken to the ground. Rare that all 5 get to enjoy the show. Usually they would be busy doing something.

btw, we had a QB spy called. Worked beautifully.

Yeah some of my Iowa pals were talking some **** prior to the game saying that Jack Trice was “tiny” and were astonished when I told them it seats about 7000 less than Kinnick. They obviously then said “well what about Michigan and Ohio State” which I followed up with well what about them? That’s not your stadium.

Morons.

quote of the week.
Ferentz was asked about losing 10 straight games to ranked opponents:
"Yeah, thanks for reminding me. I wasn't aware of that, actually. So, I mean, we're three points short today; that's about all I can say.”

That’s not true. They aren’t going round robin, so odds are there will always be mid/low brand BIG schools that have top records. Despite their record being due to avoiding top teams, they’ll get the benefit of the doubt due to being in P2
