I have coached for MANY years and yes, there is a button that is a little different for each athlete. I agree with everything you said except...First off, too much positivity and optimism can lead to some performance anxiety for some guys. They need doubters and people who don’t believe in them to fuel them. If you’ve ever coached you know this, we don’t know how the guys internalize things. Secondly, they are now nearly professional athletes getting paid. When we were college athletes we weren’t getting paid, at least I wasn’t. Most of the guys like the attention. But most people on here pay for season tickets, show up to fundraisers, donate, and hype on social media. When you ask a lot as a fanbase it’s fair to have criticism when performances don’t happen and the answer is just “raise more money to buy a proven commodity”. Or maybe just get the already talented guys to that next level and performing their best, that’s what you ask of the athletes and coaches who are asking for money. Yonger did not perform his best at nationals and he knows that. He would be the first to admit it and I would guess that’s fuel on the fire for next season
Don’t disagree with you there. Lucky for us Yonger is one of the most loved wrestlers on the team and definitely isn’t being constantly broken down. But one comment shouldn’t set the house on fire. He constantly is praised, loved and respectedI have coached for MANY years and yes, there is a button that is a little different for each athlete. I agree with everything you said except...
I have no problem calling out someone who doesn't perform. However, there is also a certain way to say it. No need to belittle an athlete. As a coach, these athletes can be "broken down" and then quickly "built back up". I haven't had many athletes that respond to constantly being broken down.
I saw him swing a club at Humboldt!!! Yonger also. Power, but the fareway wasn’t wide enoughNo love for David. I would never bet against him
They’re all too narrow as far as I am concerned.I saw him swing a club at Humboldt!!! Yonger also. Power, but the fareway wasn’t wide enough
What can you say. Algona does it rightHeard on local radio today an ISU wrestling crew will be at Kenna’s in Algona on Friday afternoon. Kenna’s is turning into a very good ISU supporter. A young BBALL player gets support from them also.
