Cy-Hawk fear...

Jon Miller is so cute with his 'it's a no win situation when Iowa plays Iowa State in football' line of thinking.

Jon vastly overestimates the national brand that is Iowa football. No one cares about Iowa football outside of Iowa fans. No one. No one in Michigan or Ohio or Florida or Alabama wakes up on a Saturday in September and thinks "Holy ****, I can't wait to watch the Hawks play".

I got Jon's comment about wanting to see teams like Michigan State and I agree... I guess my question for Jon is... why not drop bums like Western Michigan instead?

Unless playing and beating powerhouses from the MAC like Western Michigan somehow resonates nationally for Iowa... What a load of ****.

As badly as I wanted to change the channel I just had to hear how deep he was going to dig. Glad he didn't disappoint.

And I don't think many Iowa fans believe other fanbases have a vested interest in Iowa football. Overall though, the program is pretty well nationally respected (most years). Not unlike ISU bball.

Agree with the bolded 100%... right down to the coaches getting named for every damn pro job on the planet.

But damn... Jon sure did seem to think that nationally people are beating down bar doors at 11 am to see the hawks.

The fact that over the past 16 years that ISU is 9-7 vs. Iowa even though Iowa has a better overall record is Proof that Iowa plays in an inferior conference. It is not proof that Iowa has had a better football program.

And I would trade a better head to head record for two conference titles, a BCS bowl win, and four top 10 finishes any day and twice on Sundays.

There's a rain he runs one of the fastest dying college sports forums.

Even hawk fans can't stand reading what he thinks.

There is absolutely nothing good to say about Messiah Jon Miller and his followers of Hawkeye minions. Guy is a total tool and have zero respect for the guy or that fanbase.

the hoks are our only real rivalry and, yet, some want to drop the game,...................makes no sense to me.

And really our recipe for a successful season included beating Nebraska and/or K State. Beating Iowa wasn't/isn't anything new and really doesnt mean much.

If we decide not to play Iowa it will be for the same reason they don't want to play us. We each want to pad our schedule for an extra "W". Thing is, now that Iowa is going to one more conference game they need it worse than we do. Look back over the last 5 years. How often does Iowa go bowling if they played one more conference game?

This desire to end the series by Iowa is to try to secure a 6 or 7 win season with the new conference schedule. They don't feel comfy with being able to accomplish that with us on their schedule. This is really what it is about, so don't buy into any other explanation.

Really? Jon Miller was the first derp to complain about the free throw difference in the Iowa-ISU MBB game this last meeting and many Iowa fans parroted that same fact to show why they were screwed. It seems like many were agreeing with what he thinks.

Then I mention ISU MISSED 13 free throws at home

ISU MAKES 7 of those 13 misses, for example, they win by TEN

Then I get the deer-in-the-headlites look as the Hawk fan trying come to terms with my math

just curious, what are your thoughts on ISU's bball national perception?

It's a pretty well known program, not because of the success but because Hoiberg's name is everywhere. Hawkeye football was the same way in the 2004ish times when Ferentz's name was brought up for every job. Now Iowa football has been forgotten on a national scene, on the bright side their schedule couldn't be any easier this year to try to bring it back.

I can second this.

I have numerous friends that talk about Hawkeye sports on social media non-stop yet they have degrees from ISU.

You need new friends ... and need to start ridiculing those tools. But then again .... they might sue you for harassment. Your call.

You mean co-Big 10 champs? Never won one outright.

Sounds about as good as our co-Big 12 North division championship.

Don't be an idiot. A championship is still a championship and that's two more they have had since 2000 than we have had the last 100 years.

Rose Bowls: Gary Patterson 1, Kirk Ferentz 0. Thats all that matters.

Just let that sink in Hawk fan. Gary Patterson has more appearances and wins in the "grand daddy of them all" than Ferentz. TCU wasnt even a PAC 12 or Big 10 team!

So you're randomly bringing TCU's head coach into the conversation? Good lord man you are ridiculous. An ISU/UNI fan who has to bring Gary freakin Patterson into a conversation in order to try to make a point. What does that tell you?

I both love and hate the Cy-Hawk game every single year. Really fun game and a great time, but idiots from both sides tend to ruin it. The arguments people make to justify either team are almost always idiotic (who cares what Iowa did 30 years ago, XX random number of years to show either team having the edge in the rivalry recently, etc.)

By far the worst argument I ever heard was a friend telling me that Iowa should win every year because they have a Heisman trophy winner and ISU doesn't, as if Nile is suiting up for every single game they will ever play.

In reality, it's a great event for the state, it's been pretty even recently, and the only score that matters is the one that happens in the current year.

Just saying little old TCU has trumped the $5 million dollar man in Rose Bowl appearances. But hey I think this nationally branded Hawkeye team, who was outrecruited by Paul Rhoads last year according to Scout, is too high and mighty to play Iowa State.
