Stupid question, but can we get comcast here? I've been thinking of getting Direct TV, but realize that a lot of Cubs games have gone with Comcast recently.

Yes, that blackout map is for real. Unless you're a fan of the Yankees or Red Sox, Extra Innings is useless here in Iowa. If you've got DirecTV, hit the link below and punch in your zip code, it'll show you what pro teams you can receive.
Local Regional Sports Network Information
This is what I receive:
Comcast Sports Chicago (all of the Chicago pro teams)
Through the Sports Pack:
FSN North (all Minnesota & Wisconsin pro teams, except the Bucks)
FSN Midwest (Cardnails, Blues, and Royals)

Iowa's myriad of colors just blinded me. That's ridiculous.
Funny thing - as a Cubs fan in DSM, I can't get Cubs games via MLBtv.com. But I was travelling last summer and was in Madison for an evening.
Sitting in the hotel bar, I was "watching" the game via that pitch by pitch thing you can get free off Cubs.com.
The bartender was nice enough to take my laptop and log himself in - and brought up the video stream of the game.
So a Cubs fan 6+ hours away in DSM can't get the game. But can just 2 hours away in Madison. Anyone want to explain the sense of that to me?
I have CSN in central Iowa. I don't know why you wouldn't have CSN in central Iowa, unless your provider (i.e. Mediacom) doesn't want to pay to carry it (ala the BTN).That's what my assumption was but what about garn91's assertion that MLB is assuming we should have Comcast for some reason here in central Iowa?
FYI I don't yell at DirecTv but you'd think with how often they probably get yelled at they would have contacted MLB by now.

So, will the game be blacked out through directv also or is this just a "cable" thing?
I wonder if you won't see more blackouts unfortuantly with the MLB network
That's funny because I thought MLBTV blacked out the games just like TV depending on your region. I was pretty sure of it because I strongly considered getting that one year.
Yeah - the black out for televised games and MLBtv.com go hand in hand. I was just trying to illustrate how stupid the rules are being a person 6 hours away without adequate coverage can't get the game, and a person 2 hours away WITH coverage (I think they had Comcast) COULD get the game.
Here's a pretty good writeup on the situation, I think

The blogger can slam the Royals all he wants, but fact is, KC is the closet MLB market to Des Moines and back in the day, the Royals consistenly drew fans from the Central Iowa area. It's much easier (and quicker) to hop in the car and drive to Kaufmann Stadium than it is getting to Wrigley Field.
Yes, it doesn't help that the Royals haven't been in the playoffs since 1985 , but field a good team with just a little bit of marketing on KC's part and the Royals would once again draw fans from this area. Not to mention, in recent years, the radio home for the Royals have been all of the dial. This year, the Royals are on KXNO and hopefully it's the start of a long term deal.

Bingo. Imagine what your Mediacom bill would look like if Mediacom carried both FSN Midwest & Comcast SportsNet.
When FSN Chicago became Comcast SportsNet (all of the big 4 sports teams and the Tribune own an interest in the channel), Mediacom chose FSN Midwest because of Big 12 coverage and in the terms of fan interest and following, since the Cardnails would be considered the #2 team in Central Iowa, picking up FSN Midwest was a logical move for Mediacom.
