Cracks in the B1G?

Where would you put UCLA all 238 of their fans?
Ha! UCLA just paid G5 New Mexico $1.2 million to come and play in their empty Rose Bowl stadium. New Mexico had the nerve to take UCLA's $1.2 million and then kick their ass.

UCLA could have saved a boat load of money and they could have played in front of a much bigger crowd if they had agreed to a home and home with New Mexico. However, they would still gotten their ass kicked.

Go Big 10.

Agree. Similar to openly denigrating an organization and situation you would join in a heartbeat if given the chance.
Smart enough to know that of course ISU would accept a B10 invite, also smart enough to know it won’t happen. Also believe that this is the best it’ll ever get for the mid/lower tier of the B10

Oh how high and mighty from the golden perch lol. Exactly what I’m talking about.

Enjoy the game Friday night vs Rutgers this week and the game on Peacock next week, hope you got everything downloaded.

Only because there's a gun to our head that said organization placed there.

I liked Iowa State in the Big 12 historically. Honestly, I still do. I know that Iowa State would join the Big 10 if offered in a heartbeat, but it's honestly NOT what I want as a fan, because the best we could hope for in the modern iteration is maybe 8 wins, depending on schedule.

If you told me that the current conferences, payouts, and playoff format would stay in place forever I'd strongly prefer Iowa State stay put.

Lol I’m not going to kiss your feet because Iowa was born on 3rd. Sure are using it to their advantage.
Can we all take a second to congratulate Iowa and MSU for getting in the B10 generations ago?

Programs like that are what draws eyeballs to B10 football and allows for the generous media payout

This is how I feel...although I know it isn't going to work out this way (because realignment is not over). ISU might be alright in the end...but nothing is guaranteed.

But I am not sure what you guys are looking for from Iowa fans? Is it is enough for them to simply state they were birthed into a fortunate situation? Or do you want them to ask Iowa to voluntarily give up money because they aren't "earning" it? I mean...I root against all things Hawkeye and agree they wouldn't be invited to the B1G if it started today...but are they supposed to apologize for being paid well?

Don’t think I’ve seen someone ask for apologies lol maybe to just have a sense of reality and know the money isn’t coming because of their team.

Not apologize but their attitude is of a person born on 3rd base and then trying to claim that they got there because of hard work and effort. When in reality if they were in the B12 and we were the B10 team with all the money in the world, they would be just like us. Few of their fans talk about how fortunate they were for something they did a hundred years ago, but now they look down on ISU because we took a different path.

I don't think anyone expects Iowa to apologize for it, but it would be nice if their fanbase - and in particular the local media - would acknowledge it more. The posters in this thread do. I don't see them as part of the problem.

Here is where I am at on the whole wanting to join the Big 10.

I was/would be totally happy with the Big 8. If money was the same regardless.

When the Big 12 happened I started liking it less, but was still fine with the old Big 8 all still together.

Once half the Big 8 left the Big 12, and the distance and regionality was thrown out the window, I no longer really care about staying with the peers.

Moving to the B1G now would be just a survival and financial thing. During the B1G west years there would not be a better conference to be in and I said so often. Considering every single opponent would have been closer than our closest opponent in the Big 12. (if Purdue was moved to East with our entry, Purdue is barely further than KU, the rest of the B1G West were closer) But that is pretty much out the window now too, although they still have many more teams closer to ISU, than the Big 12.

Would I want to go to the B1G with all things considered and the current situation of College sports, if offered. Of course. Would I be totally happy, no probably not.

That being said, It is never going to happen in my lifetime without a complete blow up of the entire system, so I dont really worry about it. I personally think ISU has a better chance of getting invited to the SEC than the B1G. And that chance of an SEC invite is microscopic so the chance of getting invited to the B1G is more like a nano particle.

Exactly.

It made sense for Iowa State to be in a conference that was based around Plains Midwest ag schools. The Big 8 were really our most culturally similar and geographically logical conference mates.

That decision, which made all the sense in the world at the time, has doomed us for no fault of our own. Our fault lies in waiting until the late 90's to start trying at football on a consistent basis. But that doesn't matter for schools like Northwestern and Purdue that still don't really try that hard.

Definitely not apologize, I’d take an invite to the B10. Just the constant superiority from that conference and the inability for some to see that they’re being carried by others

I agree with most of what you're saying, but West Lafayette is much farther from Ames than Lawrence is. 450 miles vs 280.
