I think the story goes that the fans that stayed in the stands chanted at the court stormers to get off the court. So I don't think it was an overly popular decision.

I think one of the biggest problems with last night's court storm was that they rushed the scorer's table and benches and not the center of the court. I think part of that is because that's where the K-State players went. They immediately went to scorer's table and jumped up on them so they could be seen by all the people storming and naturally all the fans wanted to be close to the players.
The incident last night could have been way worse, and I'm glad it wasn't. But fans rushing the court or field of play after a big win or upset is a big part of why people love college sports, and trying to ban it seems like a knee jerk reaction.
If anything, I'd suggest that KSU review their security procedure. How is it that a court gets rushed around 10-20 times every basketball season (rough guesstimate) and yet this is the only time that has everybody up in arms?

Because normally the rush doesn't go straight to the benches. KSU just needs to storm correctly.
The main issue is where the students are coming from -- one side, towards the benches. So naturally, the mob will be pushed up to the benches/scorers table.
Unlike at Hilton and most other arenas, the students come from both sides, thus two equal forces meeting in the middle of the court.

If you watch the videos, you can see a line of KSU security that was moving towards center court from the baseline. Im guessing they were planning on walling off the KU bench area but executed it poorly.

I don't buy that. I mean it's a thing that happens that people mostly enjoy, but a big reason why people love college sports?
when Texas Tech stored the court against our guys, I watched until they cut away. I will watch it every time they storm the court against us. I don't ever want to see it happen again but if it does you can bet I'll watch it. If we're going to lose the game I'd rather it be worth stormin the court over. It made the loss just a little less painful. At least we got a badge of honor and a show of respect. I didn't mind the actual court storming if they do it right and security does their job. I won't say I enjoyed it but at least I appreciated it for what it was.

I kind of like the fact that every away game loss that KU has had, the opposing team's fans stormed the court except for ISU. Probably the first time ever that we can say that.

The ref had to battle his way off the floor as well, I saw him pushing his way through the crowd near the KU bench.
There was fight last year in a game between New Mexico St and Utah valley state I believe. Put me in the category that thinks this is an overreaction, sadly the PR fallout of this will ruin court storming. How many times this year have kids stormed the court? How many people were injured as a result? How many people were injured last night? Taking emotion out of college basketball is a bad idea, I think there could be more done to ensure its done safely but banning court storming would be an awful awful thing. The WV/KU moment with fans crowding the floor singing "take me home country roads" epitomized everything that is great about college bball.
Does storming the court look fun? Sure. Is it exciting to watch that huge celebration? Absolutely.
Should it be banned? Probably.

All fans should be strapped into chairs with NASCAR-type head-stabilization bars. Google glass can be installed and they can blink if they want soft serve ice cream pumped through a straw distribution system into their mouth. Of course, plumbing retro-fits will be needed so soil pipes will be at every seat so the ticket purchaser can defacate safely and not walk down stairs or get in a pushy line....of course they will be strapped in anyway.
This whole story is just filling the uber-espn-oucho air time we have, and the predictable idiocracy reaction is stupid and boring. Those trial lawyers you see on commercials even in Iowa now are parachuting into Manhattan, KS searching for the afflicted.
The Wisconsin Football stadium collapsed years ago killing students. THAT was a situation that required urgent risk assesment and response. The reaction to this is how jaded we all have become.
Will we now have state troopers in riot gear at games collecting some sweet overtime.....probably. Thanks Caucus goers.

Agreed. And court storming used to be done on major upsets, buzzer beaters, or for major accomplishments.
maryland just rushed the court.....14th ranked team....didn't win a conference title, didn't hit a 40 footer as time expired....they beat a team 8 spots higher.
