Coronavirus: Group Therapy

I was talking to a friend about the Iowa State vs. Kentucky round of 32 game. If I'm remembering correctly, it was a Friday, it was St. Patrick's Day and it was gorgeous outside. I remember moving the TV to the deck with some friends, grilling, drinking, watching the game, etc.

Now compare that to the present.

Kinda bums you out.

It was a Saturday. Everything else is accurate. That was a super mild and hot year.

They played the late game vs. UConn that Thursday night.

That's right, it was a Saturday. Which means I could drink all day, which further drives me into a state of sadness about being deprived of such awesomeness.

I'm fine with it.

Those sure were simpler times though. I'm watching a lot of sitcoms and such and it's weird watching the characters hang out in close proximity, go out in crowds et al.

Our kids are awesome and taking fairly well to the homeschooling thing... but our youngest is a huge extrovert. His teacher was telling me at his conference just a week or so ago how he is always talking while doing his work - about what he is doing, what his neighbors are doing, the game this weekend, etc. This has hit him fairly hard, he's been much more emotional... which is hard to navigate while I'm working. But we're all trying.

Something to consider trying: we are going to set up a prop bet board here in the office.

When will Dow be back above X
When will S&P get back above X
When will bars re-open in Iowa
Etc

Not to make light of anything, but as a reminder things WILL get back to normal at some point.

When will Iowa fans stop crying about their magical 11-loss basketball season being cut short?

Like that?

Cancel all, go to a courthouse to do the marriage part.

Saves money and is safer, and the results otherwise will be the same....you'll be married.

I wish it were that simple. My fiance never went to prom and didn't have a typical high school graduation, so she wanted to finally do something "right" and have a nice ceremony and reception. So that sucks for her. We'll have to see if courthouses would even be open. We're planning a Catholic wedding so obviously that doesn't follow the religious customs. Then you have to deal with your family and guests. And still hope you don't lose your pants on deposits for everything else you've spent months planning.

And then when life returns to normal later this year or next year or whenever... try to plan a make-up reception to celebrate.

I'm not saying that isn't the right idea, either. That may be what we have to do. This is just a nice place to rant.
