John Oliver on Last Week Tonight gave me this idea. He took a moment to be selfish and vent about selfish reasons why the Coronavirus is impacting your life. I fully understand that there are serious economic and health impacts that will leave longstanding damage to our world, but this is a place to take a moment to vent...

I will go first, my wife and I welcomed our first child in 2019. We were looking forward to celebrating his first birthday in April. Now this isn't going to stop us from celebrating it, but it is going to severely change the plans. We will likely shrink down the size of the group and worst of all my wife's grandma won't be able to attend he only great-grandchild's first birthday party. This just popped into my head today and it really bummed me out thinking about it.

Alright now it it your turn...what do you need to vent about?

I'm gonna lose all my status on all these airlines and hotels since I can't travel for work anymore.

Also I can't seem to get any groceries delivered.

Total first world problems, I know.

Some summer trips planned but losing those isn't a big deal if it happens.

A little leery that more people will take cheaper/local vacations so when I do my habitual nature quarantining or social distancing of camping/hiking/fishing that it will be more crowded by the very people I want to get away from.

That one really hit home.

I thought this was a no judgement zone! It was partially in jest but honestly going to the point of the thread when I think about how coronavirus effects me selfishly, yea it sucks.

My grandparents and parents are all dead so I don't have to worry about them like lots of people. I have some aunts and uncles but they're all in small towns on farms for the most part so I am not worried too much. They got food for a while and a well for water. They can ride it out a long time.

My job is pretty secure even if we do go into a massive recession. My company is large enough to continue paying me through the crisis. My benefits are great so I don't have to worry if I do get it. I'm young, mostly healthy.

So when I start crossing off all these things to worry about... I'm into major first world problem territory.

So yea, let me vent about losing status.

I know I am very lucky I am in a position I can work from home if required. I feel horrible for people who work retail or other jobs that brings them into contact with tons of people who may be infected, and who probably can't even work now because their job is non-essential and shut down. That being said I HATE working from home. This is going to drive me BONKERS!

Our small biz was really rocking the last 3 months. We've worked hard as hell to make a lot of changes, and moved to a larger facility 6 months ago. February was our best month ever. I was looking forward to a great and successful year.

So much for that.

I was not trying to shame you -- I was trying to agree with you.

I like my AA and Hilton status a lot, too.

So much easier to keep them once you have earned them, as well.

:(

And I know there’s hardly any NHL people on this site but the Blue Jackets we’re having somewhat of an improbable season (super fun season). They lost several big name free agents from last year and we’re expected to be bottom of the league. They have been grinding all year and since the ASB have been one of the best teams in the league..all while on pace to break the man games lost record in the history of the league. Everyone has or is injured. The best players left over all injured, most long term. And when the league shut it down we were WC1 in the stacked Eastern Conference.

I am stuck at home alone for who knows how long. No up close human contact is going to sorta suck after awhile. I dig my "me time" but I don't want it to be ALL of the time. It's going to get pretty ******* lonely. All of my friends are at least getting to social distance with their spouse/families.

That trumps my disappointment of not having baseball this spring. Didn't really give a **** about March Madness so that was no biggie. Was going to take up golf again this spring, might not happen. Also signed a contract and put money down to have my master bath remodeled this summer. Betting that is not happening.

Well, damn it. I "funnied" your first post because I thought you WERE mocking him.

A nice solo walking 18 is going to be good relaxation. Also solo bike rides. One of the redeeeming things about this whole mess is that going outside and finding open space is going to become super popular again.

Already TOO popular with everyone off. Went for a five mile walk this afternoon. Didn't maybe meet the criteria for social distancing since I saw tons of people on the paths. Like Sunday afternoon crowd level.

A new hat idea. Instead of a blades rim, have one with spinning blades. It will grab attention.

My retirement savings are mostly in the stock market. I hate it that Planet Fitness is closed and Homewood Golf course may not open. My bicycle and I will probably become good friends again.

Light hearted? It cancelled the race I was training for, likely cancelling my husband's fave week of the year and idk about being able to order plants and do landscaping work this spring.

Less light, a friend is going through something terrible and virtual support is not nearly enough.
