I think this is Fred's attempt to find some balance in the transfer world. Simply put, we can't just keep going after 5th year transfers or guys that have 1-2 years left. I like Fred's approach of getting some guys that are ready now (i.e. the older transfers), some guys that have some experience under their belt but could benefit from a redshirt year (i.e. transfers with 2-3 years to play) and going after some high school guys that can potentially contribute for 4-5 years. It's all about balance.

I think Rothstein mentioned that NBA guys like him. I could be wrong but it didn't originate on CF.

Hallice Cooke is definitely a want. I don't care if he isn't a 4 or a 5 star out of high school. He earned his way into a starting lineup at a Pac12 school (one that did have good players this year) and performed admirably, plus played on a Natl. championship high school team with Hurley at St.Anthony. I guess I don't see the SDW comparison, at all. SDW strength is more as a slasher. Go watch the videos of Cooke when he actually wasn't starting for Oregon State. He was playing backup, yet at the end of games on the line, he was on the floor at crunch time and stuck to his man "defensively", I might add. He had invaluable starting experience yet so much room to grow under Fred. He was commented on in many articles coming out of AAU how much leadership he showed. I will be excited to get him.

He can definetly fill the role of Naz/McGee ball handler off the bench right away and if he progresses a starters role later in his career. Plus he has already proven he can play PG at the BCS level if needed which is always a good option for Fred to have.

Am I an idiot, or did I read that if a team's head coach is fired, they can transfer without having to sit out a year? Even IF that is true, would that not apply to Cooke since he left before Robinson was fired?

If people aren't impressed with 46% from 3 and 8 ppg as a freshman I'd love to hear their opinion of Thomas.

I met Matt Thomas' cousin yesterday. A bunch of his family was at MSG for the tournament.

When a coach is fired the players aren't allowed to just up and transfer without penalty. They would still have to apply for a waiver of some sort. There have been players in the past few years that have had waivers approved and one of their main hardships would be the coach no longer at the school. I think the NCAA is going to be a lot more strict when it comes to hardship waivers this summer and going forward.

Per game averages: *according to ESPN

Thomas: 21.2 minutes, 5.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 turnovers, 66.7% FT, 36.7% FG, 33.6% 3P.
Cooke: 26.3 minutes, 8.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.6 turnovers, 73.7% FT, 45.9% FG, 45.6% 3P.

I'm pretty sure that allowing players to transfer without sitting out when a coach is fired only applies to incoming freshmen. I know that when Morgan was fired that Taggart, Carr, Degand and others all had to sit out a year after they left.

If you're a signed recruit but have not yet enrolled in school and the coach is fired, you're usually (of course there are stubborn schools that won't do it occasionally) released from your signed letter of intent so you can go to a school with a coach that recruited you. Schools don't technically have to release you from the signed LOI but it is pretty customary to do so so it doesn't make the school look bad.

lol people really don't like a kid because he wasn't highly recruited out of HS? What a joke. I'll take a tall high percentage shooting guard anytime. Especially when he will only be a sophomore.

NBA scouts like him, and you don't. That's a pretty legit reason for us to think you aren't very bright.

Exactly. Everyone alluding to us not needing him (or someone like him) or that he is a reserve guy are really overvaluing what we have IMO. It is not Cooke that will be the reserve. He has a more complete game than any of our young guys. Seeing him as SDW is laughable, and I am a SDW guy.
Knownothing said we have Georges, Morris, and a few others as stars. Who are these others? Our roster has the supporting cast position filled, what we need are more stars and even starter level players. Cooke and Anderson are those guys. Starters and go-to guys from Day 1 in 2015.

I agree with everything except for the "No offense" part. I've stopped reading his long drawn out boring posts for a while now. I probably just can't handle his brilliance.

I'd be curious to see the comparisson with Morris.
